[edit] Notability of Ben Malek

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Ben Malek, by Cquan (talk ยท contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Ben Malek seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Ben Malek, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 02:28, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Use edit summaries to discuss your edit, not insult another editor

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, we remind you not to attack other editors, as you did on User talk:Cquan. Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please don't make comments such as "get a life" in your edit summaries.[1] KP Botany 17:41, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the update. I disagree on how things were being handled by cquan. Being new to Wiki, a editor, author should recommend on how to improve a wiki to a newbie, not constantly delete posts.

Khansajed 20:15, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Just to be clear, I did not delete the article as only admins have that ability. Any Wikipedia editor is free to recommend things for deletion based on the deletion policy and that is what I did. On the subject of the articles you are creating, you should probably read the guidelines on conflict of interest as it is generally strongly discouraged to write articles about yourself, your friends or people that you are closely involved with, such as your mentor. Thanks. Cquan (after the beep...) 20:28, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Cquan. Why don't you write about Ron Bliwas and Ben Malek. Do some digging around on the internet for Ron Bliwas and you will see how his vision changed Direct Response Television for America, not only is he a icon, he is a world renown individual. I understand about Ben Malek and it being a conflict of interest.

In response to both Khansajed: I do suggest that you reconsider writing an article with which you have a strong conflict of interest (WP:COI).
The article when I went to edit it was very poorly written. If your COI is such that you admire this person, please consider whether or not they deserve, based upon their notability and achievements, a well-written article about them. If they do, please consider whether or not you, or your sock puppet, User:Malibailey, is the person to write the article. The article had the type of peacock writing that screams out to other editors that the person is not notable--which is why it was nominated for deletion. It also had the type of writing that is simply praise without specifics, which also tends to make it seem as if it written by a friend, not a neutral editor--if someone is notable enough for an article, there will be more than their buddies on Wikipedia editing it. If you want to praise someone do it in a toast, but if you want to show how someone is notable name and discuss, with references, their specific accomplishments.
I wish there was some way of showing editors who come to Wikipedia with serious conflicts of interest about articles--like your stated intention of using Wikipedia to promote Malek on the Internet--just how poorly the articles they write appear to other editors, and, ultimately to Wikipedia users. I am having the same issue with another COI editor who wrote a crappy article about some of his own research.
I can't imagine that you want Malek to appear supported by an unprofessional staff, because this degrades his appearance of professionalism. If this is the case, namely, that you don't want Malek to appear surrounded by non professionals, I urge you to seriously consider what quality article you want about him, if any, on Wikipedia: a professional and neutral article that shows his accomplishments and notability in a professional manner, or a fluff piece praising him without substance that winds up making him appear as if he has no substance that can be neutrally researched and written up. To attain the former you simply must allow other editors to write the article or you must devote the time necessary to understand Wikipedia's guidelines, and Manual of Style. I realize this sounds harsh, but you have a responsibility to your client that should be considered first and foremest in your attempts to use Wikipedia as a promotional venue. Please, seriously evaluate the quality of article that your client deserves, and also consider whether or not having a bad article is better than no article at all. Any publicity may be good publicity if you're Paris Hilton. This does not always apply in the world of business where people have to build reputations of professionalism, that don't really include poorly written biographies on Wikipedia.
Both Cquan and I are trying to strongly discourage you from writing this article for these reasons: it will probably be a poor article, as it was, and go up for deletion, as it should, because it appears that the person is not notable enough to have a properly sourced and written neutral article about him on Wikipedia. If this is not your goal, you might seriously weigh what I have said in light of your goals. KP Botany 01:53, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

KP Botany I took your suggestion and it is duly noted. I do have one problem regarding your comment on 'sock puppet'. I do not know User:Malibailey, so please do not accuse me without any factual evidence. Let me remind you on a Wiki policy "no personal attacks" . Once you have calmed yourself down, lets discuss the matter. Have a great weekend!

Don't worry, I'm never uncalm, but I thank you for your concern about my personal condition. Use four tildas or use the squiggly thing that's supposed to look like a signature right above this box when you edit, in order to put your signature after the posts. The User:Malibaiely appears to be doing only edits you've done and appears to have signed up at about the same time you stopped posting, and is making the same type of edits you are without edit summaries, and ditto your IP address. Accusations with foundation are not personal attacks--it is mighty suspicious when a group of three users all come in to edit only one article. We can either deal with that issue, or with the article--let's go for the latter. I've removed most of the objectional parts, and edited the article highly, let me know what else you have that can be added. KP Botany 19:48, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ben Malek

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Ben Malek, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] PS Adding comments to other editors' talk pages

When you add a note to someone else's talk page, it can be easier to find the note if you add it to the bottom, rather than the top. To do this, simply click the "+" tab right above the name of the edit ("Editing User talk:so and so")--this will give you a new edit box to fill out, that will add your message to the bottom of the page, making it easier for the editor to find it. If you have specific questions about how to do things, please feel free to ask me on my talk page. I understand what you're trying to do, and I'm not necessarily against it, but I do wish you would consider another way of going about it. If you simply must proceed in the same manner, read the WP:MOS and ask questions before you post. Thanks. KP Botany 01:57, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] July 2007

Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages, as you did with Ben Malek. Doing so won't stop the discussion from taking place. You are, however, welcome to comment about the proposed deletion on the appropriate page. Thank you. [edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:BenMalek.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:BenMalek.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. [edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:BenMalek.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:BenMalek.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:42, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
