Khanpur (Urdu: خانپور) is a city in Punjab, Pakistan.

Khanpur is a centre for sugarcane and cotton crops. The Tehsil of Khanpur is one of the largest area-wise of Rahim Yar Khan District. The famous Cholistan Desert is mainly located in the Khanpur area.

Khanpur is also know as Khanpur Katora; Katora means bowl. Khanpur had a long history of producing clay bowls.

Khanpur originally had the status of district headquarters but later on this status was given to the city of Rahim Yar Khan. Khanpur is known to be the one of oldest cities of the Punjab. Its Bazaar is clear evidence of this old saga of the city. Shahi Road Khanpur which leads to RahimYar Khan on one side and on the other side the respected JethaBhutta Darbar.

CRICKET:

There was one cricket ground in Khanpur which was maintained by Matchless Cricket Club Khanpur and to maintain it there was a lot of efforts by many peoples and main peoples were Malik Farrukh Iqbal, Tauseef Bukhari, Raja Ayub, and Mohammad Akmal, Akli. But now Khanpur muncipilty did the most cruel thing to demolish it and made it as central park which is really not helping any sports specially cricket in Khan pur. From Khanpur may cricketers went on international levels. few played One Day International and one is now First Class ACC umpire, name is Syed Tauseef Bukhari, he is currently living in Hong Kong.

Its khanpur's pride that many talented cricketers achieved honors on that high levels and stamped the Khanpur's name in their profiles forever.

Its highly requested to Govt of Pakistan to provide a International level cricket ground in Khanpur city otherwise cricket is almost dead in Khanpur.

The Government Tarqai-Taleem Degree College for Men is providing education in many disciplines. Masters level classes have started in this college. The Government Commerce College and Government Degree College for Women are also playing their role in the increase of the literacy throughout Khanpur tehsil. There are also many private School and Colleges, that are also playing their part in the education sector. Some of them are approved for Master Degree classes.

Campus of Education University is also an honour for Khanpur, since it's the only one in district Rahim Yar Khan.

Also some private college providing a good education status like Government Institute of Commerce now operating in its new building at Halka 5, Al-barket Computer college near doaba pulli khan pur, Ali Commerce College also take place a great part in the contribution of making good and educated men and woman. Now there also a Law college in khanpur to provide law education.

Central Public Higher secondary school giving Precious education, Sports and other co-curricular activities. Principal is Mr. M. Naik Iqbal. Presenting three different sections for girls, boys and juniors.

Hafeez Shahid is a famous poet of khanpur.He wrote five books of poetry.

  4. Ye Darya Par Kerna Hai
  5. Fasila Dermeyan Wohi Hai Abhi

He has also written lyrics for two punjabi films in 70s.He lives in Jinah town.His sixth book is soon coming by name "Sooraj badal raha hai".

Siraiki and Punjabi is frequently spoken here, it is similar to the which are the main languages of Punjab province, but Urdu the national language is also widely understood.

There are three famous Darabrs (Tombs) in the surrounding area of Khanpur. These tombs are of

  • Maulana Ubaid-ul-Allah Sindhi (who played a major role in spreading Islam in the subcontinent)
  • Khwaja Ghulam Fareed in Kot Mithan which is almost 200 km from Khanpur.
  • Syed Jindan Shah Bukhari, believed to be a Wali, his tomb is situated near Khanpur Station.
