Khamgaon is an industrial town and a tehsil in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra, India.

Khamgaon is located at 20.68° N 76.57° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 323 metres (1059 feet).

It is having a very extreme climate, the winters are very cold were as the summers are very hot. Sometimes in the summer the temperature rise up to 49˚C. The best time to visit this place is Oct to Dec. It is connected by Central Railway to Jalamb Junction with single broadguage electrified line. It lies on National highways No 6 from Howrah To Hazira. [2]

Khamgaon has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 71%. In Khamgaon, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Khamgaon is the most important cotton ginning market in whole Berar Province and was established in 1820. MIDC Khamgaon (Khamgaon Industrial Area) is situated 5 km away from the Khamgaon town. The only Pears Soap plant of Hindustan Lever Ltd , A big spiining unit manufacturs synthetic yarn BIRLA COTSYN (INDIA) LTD. formely known as Vardhan Syntex, A Yash Birla Group Company are situated at MIDC. The town also boasts of having a unit called Hanuman Vitamin Foods Ltd, who are the world pioneers in extraction of oil from Mango Kernels, a hitherto waste material. The unit also has the only solvent fractionation unit of the country, and is involved in production and export of high value Fats for use in Chocolates as coco butter equivalents.

The Dharma Baskar Sant Pachalegaonkar Maharaj Math, which is dedicated to Datta is situated in Khamgaon. The Nirgun Paduka of Datta is also situated here, and according to the legends, it was given by Dattatreya to Pachalegaonkar Maharaj. Shegaon, also a place of Datta (Gajanan Maharaj), is located 15 km from Khamgaon.

Khamgon is also famous for Durga Utsav which is held by Indian month "Ashwin Shukla Paksha" after Vijaya Dashmi. This festival is only held in Khamgaon city in the whole india. The goddes Durga is called as "Mothi Aaye".

The temple of wooden statue of great Ganesha called 'Ayyachee Kothi'. Also known by 'Laakadacha Ganapathy'. It is 6 feet tall and unique statue in Maharashtra.

The Jagadamba goddess is the reigning deity of the Khamgaon. A temple dedicated to the goddess is situated west part of the town at 'Ghatpuri' on the way of Pimplegaon Kale. In the month of September there is a huge procession for the Navaratris and people flock in to visit and receive blessings of the Goddess.

Close to Khamgaon is the villages Vaghali where a ancient temple of Hanuman is located. Its 8Km on they way of Buldhana via Botha village. Each year thousands of pilgrims from nearby villages & towns of Buldhana district gather here on 'Hanuman Jayanti' and next day of 'Vijaya Dhashami'.

Khamgaon is a Sub-Division & Main business centre of Buldhana district and consist of Khamgaon tehsils. Khamgaon tehsil has 132 villages. The area of the tehsil is 998.37 km². Khamgaon Tehsil has its location as 19°51’ to 21°17’ North latitude and 75°57’ to 77°49’ East Longitude and has population of around 2, 18,000 [4]

Khamgaon was a strong fort of the Bhartaiya Janata Party. The current MLA is Congress's Dilip Kumar Sananda. Bhau Sahab Phunkar, who is the leader of opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council, also belongs to Khamgaon.
