Khalid Saeed Yafai

Khalid Saeed Yafai (b. June 11 1989 in Birmingham) is a British amateur boxer best known to win the U17 world championships 2005.

Like Naseem Hamed, flyweight Yafai is the son of Yemeni parents.

He got the 2005 award "Junior Sportsman of the Year", after he became England’s first ever U17 World Boxing Champion, when he won the World Cadet title winning the junior flyweight title against Luis Yáñez.

Fighting for Birmingham City ABC he became British (ABA) champion 2006 while still 17, at the World Junior CHampionships 2006 in Agadir he lost in the quarterfinal to eventual Cuban winner Alexei Collado 19:41.

At the European Junior Championships 2007 he lost the final to Russian Misha Aloyan 4:19.

As Britain's youngest team member at the seniors world championship 2007 the 18-year-old beat his Armenian opponent Derenik Gizhlaryan 22:10 but lost to world class southpaw Violito Payla (Philippines) 15:29.
