Khakwani

Originally, the word "KHOGIANI" is used as KHAKWANI .The Pakhtun tribe from Khogiani District in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

Jalalabad the city in Afghanistan close to the border of Pakistan falls in this district as well as the famous mountain range of Tora Bora.It is pronounce in Persian as Khogani,and in English histories as Khakwani. This tribe is also known as Chopanzai,because they are the desendents of Hazrat Chopan Khan Khogiani,who was a saint and his shrine is present in Ghazni. Khogiani's are a mountain tribe often indulging in wars against the shinwari and the ghilzai tribes.

[edit] Emergence In The Sub-continent Region

The ancestors from this tribe came to the Indian Sub-continent Region some 450 years ago.The first khogiani to come to these areas was Malik Shahpal,who was invited to attend the royal Mughal court by Emperor Humanyun. Following him came Khudadad Khan who was settle in Ghazni at that time. They came as rulers and stayed as conquerors. Khudadad Khan was the head of the Khogiani tribe and settled near the area of Multan, his descendants ruled Multan for a substantial amount of time without any interference and when it was annexed by Afghanistan Khakwani's again were appointed as governors Nawab Ali Mohammad Khan built the famous Masjid Ali Mohammad wrongfully called Wali Mohammad. Khakwani's continue to live around Multan holding vast tracts of land with substantial holdings in Vehari, Shujaabad, khanewal, bahawalpur, bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahimyar Khan, Dera Ismael Khan and leyyah districts of Pakistan.
