Khaira Majha

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Khaira Majha is a village in Punjab, India. It is situated midway between the two cities of Karpurthala and Jallandhar. It has a population of approximately 3000 residents and was founded in the 1700's.

Khaira refers to the surname of most of the residents and the word Majha (also spelt Majja) is derived from the fact that the four brothers who set up the village came from that part of the Punjab (Punjab is divided into three areas: Majha, Doaba and Malwa). A significant number of residents from this village have migrated to Europe (mainly the UK) and North America. The majority of the residents are Jatt farmers.
