KGB Archiver is a free, open source and cross-platform file archiver and data compression utility developed by Tomasz Pawlak based on the PAQ6 compression Algorithm.[1] It achieves a very high compression ratio at the cost of time and memory consumption.
[edit] Controversy
There is some discussion as to whether or not this program actually works as claimed. There have been incredible claims—such as compressing 682 MB down to 64KB—which should be theoretically impossible. Many people use this program, and it crashes their computer. Some users have claimed that one needs a fast computer with copious amounts of memory or it will not work, however, there are no documented cases of it performing anything more than typical compression tasks without failing.
