Wobble

You really need to read his comments on talk:English people. I respect your policy on no personal attacks, but this guy has done the same to a bunch of users. Thanks, bye. 69.157.105.101 06:34, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Again, did you give the same warning to Wobble for his insults on Talk:English people, no, do your job properly please.

This nigga insulted this guy, but theres also more (not to mention insults towards me):

Ha ha ha ha. Epf shows to devastating effect just how little he understands about English people or English ethnic identity. You claim to be of English ethnic identity, but you know fuck all about it. Your arse is not for talking trough Epf. Alun 07:39, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

From Talk:English people

He gets even more personal in the discussion if you read on. I'm sure this Epf cracker will say somethin about it when he's on.

This is not a personal attack, this is merely me stating that I disagree with him. Where do I personally insult him? My language may have been somewhat offensive. Be that as it may, Epf and I have crossed swords on this page for well over a year and know each other well. This is nothing compared to what 69.157.105.101 has written on my talk page, making offensive comments about me, my children and my wife, even after he was warned. Where is the similarity here. I have over 4000 edits to wikipedia and have never been accused of making personal attacks before. Alun 07:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Actually looking at what I wrote I can understand why it might be constured as a personal attack, though it wasn't meant as one. I'll appologise to Epf on his talk page. Alun 07:38, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Never have been accused doesn't mean you didnt make em, am I right or am I right, haha.

Upcoming template changes

Hi, I've just noticed that you recently left a templated userpage message using VP. I'm just bringing to your attention that the format and context of these templates will be shortly changing. It is recommended that you visit WikiProject user warnings and harmonisation discussion pages to find out how these changes could affect the templates you use. We also would appreciate any insights or thoughts you may have on the subject. Thanks for your understanding. Best regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 11:46, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't experimenting with the subject topic, and am baffled as to why you think I was.

The data on the subject page is incorrect. The FAA/ICAO use the spelling "Alfa" for a. http://www.faa.gov/ATpubs/ATC/Chp2/atc0204.html.

My alteration of the page was designed to make it correct.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am considering deploying MediaWiki on for use on a website I am working on, and I have learning numerous things about the software and how the community is structured since. I have made a few contributions, and have even started a few articles. I appreciate your friendliness, as it is truly people like yourself that make Wikipedia great, not just the software it upon which it runs.

Your irresponsible AFD comments, which you ought to apologize for

Gosh, thanks for all those well-thought-out, carefully checked commets at theOphelia Benson AFD. In the future, to improve the level of your contributions to Wikipedia, might I suggest you improve your practices in two areas. First, you should actually read the article you are commenting on, and take note of its contents. Second, you should consider the claims made in the article against the relevant notability criteria, even, as necessary, checking the references and external links provided for the article..
Ophelia Benson is a well-known published author, not merely a blogger (although she is probably notable as a blogger, too). Her two books are listed by title in the article, even though none of you astute readers noticed that. (Apparently the identification of Benson as an "author" and the listing of the book titles in distinctive type was insufficient to tip off careful and well-informed Wikipedia editors like yourselves; perhaps one or two of you may have suggestions on how to improve such descriptions.) Her books meet the notability criteria, having been reviewed and discussed in major media. In fact, Benson is a native of the UK, and both her books have been reviewed/discussed in the TLS, which even Wikipedia acknowledges as "one of the world's preeminent critical publications." (The second review appears in the October 20, 2006 issue, and is not yet directly cited online.)
Benson's two books may be only available through such obscure retailers as Amazon.com [2] [3] and Barnes & Noble [4] [5], and the relevant pages give samples of reviews and indicate the caliber of Benson's audience.
Now I recognize that article deletion is a holy and privileged activity, and that deletion of articles about women whose claims to notability don't involve performances emphasizing, flaunting, or exposing their mammaries is a virtual sacrament which shouldn't be disrupted or contested, however ridiculous or inaccurate the basis, unless the circumstances are really really unusual. But while one of England's "leading cultural critics" is apparently not, by Wikipedia editor consensus, as notable as a moderately obese middle-aged woman who films herself having sex with dogs, and the TLS is apparently by the same consensus not a "major" publication with the stature and reputation of Color Climax Anal Sex or Big Fuckin' Tits, or even Juggs, I think she deserves to be included in Wikipedia.
I now realize that the excessive literacy and cultural awareness I displayed in recognizing the name of a well-known figure in the British academic-literary world is inconsitent with the qualities required of a good Wikipedian, and fully justifies the assumptions of bad faith you have all made. I now know that in-depth knowledge of any subjects outside of pornography, Pokemon, and professional sports can only damage the Wikipedian enterprise, and I will do my best in the future to follow your lead and to contribute only with regard to subjects about which I know nothing, or next to nothing.

Now (dropping the ironic stance) I deserve a public apology from each of the posters whose sloth, carelessness, malice, or incompetence led them to make unfounded, uncivil, derogatory comments about me (and about the entirely blamess Ms Benson). And I deserve a display of abject, public, unqualified self-execration from the ArbCom member who charged to the head of the attack. I expect, of course, nothing but renewed incivility, personal attacks, and evasion of responsibility. VivianDarkbloom 20:39, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate the time you put into this comment and all the pages you posted this on, but the fact still remains, an article must conform to the guidelines set forth here at Wikipedia or they get deleted. I know this all too well as I have had an article deleted for the same reason. If you have some facts and sources you can add to the article to make it comply with the guidelines, then by all means do so. Otherwise, the process of AfD will continue despite the efforts exerted to intimidate people. --Kf4bdy talk contribs 22:31, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Economics

With all do respect, the edit to the economics article is valid. It is an improvement to the article, and an important change; There is no need for such an elaborate criticism section. As with every other science, when there is a criticism section at all, it is kept succinct and to general. The criticism section of economics is overly detailed and analytical, going into detail that is uncommon in any other wikipedia entry of a summary of a science or field.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Carmen Gray

I think that the references on Carmen Gray now are enough to prove notability. Even if you can't read Finnish, the reference pages are recognizably reviews of the band's album. Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
The last AC meeting (full log)
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?

Nikhil Parekh

I have just placed this notice on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nikhil Parekh page, and am bringing every voter's attention to it as promised.

Comment. Sigh. Despite the inevitable tirade that this will unleash, I am sorry to have to bring new information to the table. I have this morning received an email from Vijaya Ghose, editor of the Limca Book of Records. "Dear Mr (----), We have enlisted a couple of claims of Nikhil Parekh. Longest Poem is not one of them. He has formidable competition in John Milton's Paradise Lost and our own Mahabharata. However, he has written to many heads of state and has received replies but not from the head of state but the secretary or executive assistant. He is is the first from India to feature on Eppie. We checked with them. Regards Vijaya Ghose. So Parekh, though probably not notable as a poet, is indeed an Indian world record holder. I suspect that this changes the balance on his notability, though the article would still require a great deal of clear-up. I will notify everyone who took part in this vote and ask admins to extend debate a little. Sorry.

I don't know whether this changes your vote, but thought you should know. Vizjim 06:05, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Personal attack

I entirely disagree with your assesment. To make the additional notation that someone with brown hair is a brunette, that does not violate Wiki rules whatsoever. To point out that Pelosi supports 1st amend but does not support 2nd amend is entirely correct and has no flavor of bias -- facts are not bias. You are an example of why Wiki is dead or dying. You should be ashamed.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Adamrock (talkcontribs) 13:51, 8 November 2006.

While I appreciate your personal attack on my talk page, I must point out that I have had no contact with you since my welcome message to you, nor have I edited or reverted any articles on politics in the last few months. I will warn you that such personal attacks are against Wikipedia policies and can result in you being banned from Wikipedia. --Kf4bdy talk contribs 20:11, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Kf4bdy, Re: the above. My posting was incorrectly directed towards yourself. That was intended as a rebuff to someone else (a Wiki facist), and I didn't realize it went to your talk page. I am sorry for that. Sincerely, it was not meant for you.

Famous Minnesotans page

I put Kofi Annan and Olli Rehn on that list because they both went to Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Was there some decision not to include people who only went to college in Minnesota?

Nick Griffin

Hi. Not sure why you reverted my edit on the Nick Griffin page - I merely used a couple of quotes from the article cited, since the single sentence for the whole section seemed rather sparse and weak, and didn't reference the source.

Question:

Hello,

I am new to this fine website, and have recently created this profile. I had just recently uploaded an image to your site [PICT0182.JPG], and seem to be having issues. I was required to have a licence, but I created the image. Currently, I added the "GNU Free Documentation License" and removed the box describing the lack of licence, but now I am inquiring as to whether this is okay? I apologize if it wasn't, and will try and change it as soon as possible.

I had also added the image to a web page, but it was removed. Was this due to the lack of licence, of ws this another edit?

Thank you very much.

Personal attacks

Hi - I notice you have been vigilant about calling people out on personal attacks. You may want to also consider as an option the procedures and tools of the Wikipedia:Personal attack intervention noticeboard. -- Stbalbach 14:17, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Some help for a new member, maybe?

Hi. I'm very new to wikipedia, though I've been using it for a while now. I just recently created a page for my High School (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brawley_Union_High_School). Shimeru, a user you are familiar with, has been deleting portions of it. He even deleted the section I had posted with the faculty beliefs from the school website. He wrote: The "faculty beliefs" section of this article was a copyvio from the school's website. I have removed it. Shimeru 21:22, 10 November 2006 (UTC). The school gave me permission to make this page. Did I have to write, "It's OK people, I have permission." I know it wouldn't be like that if I had to, but this whole business of "add citatoins, copyvios, wrong facts, rename the article" seems a little too crazy and uncalled for to me. I'd honestly rather just get the article deleted so I don't have to hear all the "crap" about what's wrong with it. I go to that school. It's not like I don't know about it. Anyway, I know that you are a more advanced member of Wikipedia, and I came to ask advice of you after I saw your topic on shimeru's talk page. You seem to be annoyed at shimeru's "hastened" deletion process. I just don't know what to do. Should I just submit the article for deletion? I'm so sick of this. The article is now half of what it was. I mean, come on. No one had to delete the Alma Mater. Help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks for reading. -- Overthemoonboy 17:02, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Kf4bdy,

Many thanks for what looks to be a lot of good information. It will take me a bit to get through it, but I sincerely appreciate you sending it my way.
