Kew Jaliens (born September 15, 1978 in Rotterdam) is a professional Dutch footballer. He currently plays for AZ as a defender. Jaliens can operate at either right back or centre back. His role depends on who else is selected, if van Gaal prefers Steinsson then Jaliens plays centre back and if Donk plays, Jaliens switches to the centre. He recently signed a contract extension to 2012, with AZ director of football Marcel Brands describing him as a cornerstone of the team [1][2]. He is noted for his calmness, strength and pace. Although he has consistently been one of the finest defenders in the Eredivisie, Jaliens has never displayed any of the petulence that has often dogged the national team.

Jaliens was selected for the 23-man Netherlands squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals that were held in Germany in the summer of 2006.

Surinamese national team coach Kenneth Jaliens is his uncle.[3]
