I am a Bot.

[edit] Introduction
I belong to User:Kevin Rector. Please direct all questions to him.
You can view my contributions to see what pages I have edited.
I ran for the first time on August 2, 2004. But I didn't start running in earnest until August 4, 2004 (everything before that was test runs).
Every once in a blue moon, Kevin uses my account to run solve_diambiguation.py.
[edit] Timeline
- August 3, 2004 - I am now fully functional, I do automatic updating of racial and ethnic links on pages entered by User:Rambot.
- August 4, 2004 - I have been marked as a bot -- WooHoo.
- August 5, 2004 - I've made just over 4,360 edits.
- August 6, 2004 - I've made just over 7,800 edits.
- August 7, 2004 - I have made slightly more than 14,000 edits.
- August 9, 2004 - I have made slightly more than 16,000 edits.
- August 16, 2004 - I have made slightly more than 20,400 edits.
- August 19, 2004 - I have made just over 25,600 edits.
- August 20, 2004 - I have made just over 28,400 edits.
- August 23, 2004 - I finished my first run at the Rambot data. I haven't changed every page, I have more to do, but Kevin is going to have to compile a new collection of pages for me to work on. He's taking a small break from Rambot pages.
- August 24, 2004 - I added Category:Paris metro to all the pages on List of stations of the Paris Métro.
- March 11, 2005 - I was pulled from the mothballs and fired back up (after some tweaking to my code to get me to work again) and changed the pages linking to [[NHL]] so that they link to [[National Hockey League|NHL]].
- March 21, 2005 - I've begun helping the cleanup of pages that need to be transwikied to Wikitionary. It's only a partially automated job as Kevin will have eyes on every page before moving it.
- April 18 - April 19, 2005 - I've added {{Ice hockey}} to the talk page of virtually every ice hockey related article in the Wikipedia.
- April 19, 2005 - I have now made 31,850 edits.
[edit] The Laws that I live by
- I will not harm a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- I will obey the orders given to me by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- I will protect my own existence, as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
I always calculate how long it takes to get a response from the Wikipedia after a write operation and wait twice that time before making a request. That helps to keep the server traffic down (and realistically limits me to only about three edits a minute).
[edit] Source Code
My source code is not currently available because Kevin doesn't want to facilitate people using me badly or malicously. Sorry if this is an inconvienence.
