[edit] One Week video

What do you mean Kev doesn't appear in many of the shots? I just watched the video and he appears in all the full band shots and a few of just him or him next to Jim. He appears wherever you'd expect him! Thesithwithashotgunshell 23:27, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

The phrasing shouldn't be taken as "there are many shots in which he doesn't appear", but as "he doesn't appear in very many shots". However, he is absent in a couple of band shots in the first half of the video (the royal court scene) TheHYPO 04:02, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

I understood what was said. Watch the video. I just did. Kev appears in more shots than Ty does. The only reason you can't see him in a few of the full band shots is because the cameraman was positioned so that Kev was obscured by Ed or, I believe in one case, Jim or Steve. Perhaps this was intentional, and maybe he wasn't there. But if you say that Kev only appears in a few, you might as well say that about Ty. There's that shot of him in the beginning, and then you see him by himself twice, once in a quarterscreen shot next to Ed (?) in his car, and once at the end at his drums. Kev gets more shots by himself before the end of Ed's first rap part. 71.238.107.160 10:44, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, wasn't logged in. Thesithwithashotgunshell 10:46, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Like I said, watch the shot when the band runs out of the "king's court" the keyboard is empty, and Kevin isn't there. There are other band shots of the king's court segment where the keyboards are unattended. This has been mentioned in several of the band's biographies, so it's not something that someone noticed and tossed into the article. If Ty isn't in shots, it was an artistic direction or some other reason, but it's noted that Kevin was not able to be in shots because he was gone... flown to Toronto to start cancer treatments. That is notable. An artistic direction not to shoot Ty isn't really. TheHYPO 12:51, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

And since you decided to go shot by shot, I'll note as well that about 10 seconds into the video, Steve is ushered in on the shoulders of two "soldiers". There's a shot of the rest of the band following him in, but Kevin isn't in it.
There are, as you say, a number of band shots taken (such as at 14 seconds) where you see the four members but the shot is such that Kevin wouldn't be in it. I can't tell you shot by shot if each shot was just an artist choice for no reason, or if that shot was taken BECAUSE Kevin wasn't there, and they didn't want to film an empty spot where he should be. I can tell you on that particular shot that I don't see his hands on the keyboard though. The next shot he's missing in is the shot where the angels descend at 0:45. His keyboard is clearly visible and empty. At 0:55, the same shot is used (or a continuation of it). At about 1:00, the devil girls dance in front of the band in wide angle, and Kevin is again not at his keyboards; the shot continues after a brief cutaway. and you see it from two or three angles without Kevin. And finally, around 1:15, the band leaves their instruments and runs out the door, both shots without Kevin. There's a difference between "They didn't edit in many shots of Tyler" and "there are shots of the drums where Tyler should be, but he isn't there." TheHYPO 13:02, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay, you're right. I didn't notice the shots where Kev was clearly absent. They probably could have put in a double to fool viewers. I was looking more for screen time, which I hinted at when I said that Kev appears more than Ty. Just to note, I didn't see the shot that you pointed out where Ty, Ed, and Jim appeared behind the soldiers. Is that them to their right of the soldiers? The video I'm looking at on YouTube is low-res, so all I see is some other soldiers with either different hats or no hats and Ty behind them. The specific "soldier (?)" that I'm pointing out has hair (leaving out Ty), it's not red hair (leaving out Jim), and has no facial hair (leaving out Ed, who had a beard at this time). It might not be a band member, so maybe you're right. It doesn't look like Kev, and he is wearing a hat, so... the only band member behind them that I see is Ty, possibly because of the low-res video that I'm looking at. When they run outside, true, you can't see Kev running out at first. He was closer to the door than any of the other members, had nothing to drop or carry, like Ed and Jim did, and, for all we know, may have been faster than any of the other band members, despite his condition. Just because he was weak doesn't mean that he couldn't run fast. I'm severely weak, lacking strength, but I can run faster than my schoolmates. When they get outside, Kev is the second from the right, in the light blue vest. You may be right, that Kev may have not been there when they first ran out. One of us could email them and ask what specific shots that Kev is absent. In fact, I will email them right now to ask them. But yes, you're right that Kev wasn't there the whole time. I asked him directly about the video through "Call and Answer" on bnlmusic.com, and should have his answer shortly. Thesithwithashotgunshell 16:23, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

I don't know why you're arguing. I'm telling you straight from the band's mouth - the guy flew to Toronto for Chemo treatments and IS MISSING in several shots. The soldier shot is during the line "get that together". Steve goes in on shoulders, then he's held from behind by another soldier, then each band member is brought it by another soldier - Jim, then Ed, then Ty. The band have the red shirts under their coats. Ed and Ty are probably not visible on a youtube video.
Your theories are just theories. I'm telling you from the band's mouth in several documentaries, and the commentary on their DVD of music videos the actual story. I mean, if I were a director shooting a video, and one of the band members had to leave, I would obviously try to shoot things in a way that made it look like he was just out of frame, or had already run out of frame. But the point is he's not in the shot. Yes, He appears outside, but obviously that's a completely different scene shot at a completely different time in a completely different wardrobe.
Since you want to hear it straight, here's a transcript from the Life & Times documentary on the band

Narrator: But Kevin Hearn was too sick perform in the video
Steve: Well there's a bunch of shots - wide shots - where you can just see his keyboard standing there by itself, over on the side. They did a pretty good job of editing it so you don't see it, but they just basically shot him playing by himself a couple takes, and then he was on a plane back to Toronto.

Sorry for being a dick. I realized when I read that last comment that I was in the wrong, and only just read the don't be a dick page, letting me know what exactly I was being. Thesithwithashotgunshell (talk) 15:14, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
