Kevin Lesley Ross (born January 16, 1962 in Camden, New Jersey) was a cornerback and safety who played 14 seasons in the National Football League. Ross attended Temple University. He is currently an assistant coach with the Chargers.
He was called "Rock", anickname he wasn't particulary fond of, but it fit. He was solid, dependable, loyal, intense. Kevin Ross set a standard for himself of uncompromised excellence, and went about the task of achieving it every game, every play.
"I don't think I Have been around anyone quite like Kevin." Marty Schottenheimer said of Ross, "I've seen no evidence that he isn't ready to perform at any moment."
Performing was his game. The Chiefs' seventh pick in the 1984 NFL Draft, the Temple product played like a no.1 pick his entire career. He became a starter his rookie season and perfected a classic bump-and-run coverage that made him hard to beat in the secondary.
For his career in Kansas City, he picked off 30 passes and score 5 touchdowns. Ross played in a total of 156 games for the Chiefs. He went to Atlanta as a free agent before the 1994 season and later returned to play in five games in 1997.
Ross played high school football at Paulsboro High School in Paulsboro, New Jersey.[1]
