[edit] High school career
While attending Stephenville High School in Stephenville, Texas, Kolb (pronounced "cobb") was a two-time UIL District 8-4A offensive MVP. His most outstanding year was his senior year, 2002, in which he completed 206 of 321 passing attempts for 3,357 yards and 29 touchdowns. At the end of the 2002 season, he was selected Honorable Mention All-State and Second Team Academic All-State.
Kolb initially committed to Oklahoma State to play college football but rescinded this commitment when the University of Houston hired head coach Art Briles, a former head coach at Stephenville High School.
[edit] College career
Kolb started at Houston as a true freshman in 2003, making his debut against Rice University at Robertson Stadium. On October 25, Kolb accounted for over 400 yards passing and 100 yards rushing against Texas Christian, only the fourth time this feat has been achieved in Division I-A. Kolb finished the season with 3,131 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and only 6 interceptions en route to a 7-6 record on the year, which ended with a 54-48 loss to the University of Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl.
After a losing season in 2004, Kolb led the Cougars to a 6-5 regular-season record in 2005. He was named the Cougars' MVP[1] in the Fort Worth Bowl in a 42-13 loss to Kansas.
Kolb's signature college year was 2006, in which he threw 30 touchdowns and only four interceptions on the way to a 10-4 record and a Conference USA championship. Kolb won the conference's offensive MVP, but Houston lost to South Carolina 44-36 in the Liberty Bowl.
Kolb's awards include:

[edit] Philadelphia Eagles
In a surprising move, the Philadelphia Eagles traded their 2007 first round draft selection to the Dallas Cowboys for other picks in the draft, and used a pick in the second round (the Eagles' first pick of the draft) to select Kolb (who was the 36th overall draft pick).
On July 25, 2007, Kolb agreed to a four-year contract with the Eagles valued at over $US 4 million. Kolb made his NFL debut with Philadelphia on September 23, 2007 in a game against the Detroit Lions, entering late in the game after the Eagles had established a large lead over the Lions. Kolb has yet to start a game for the Eagles, however, with Donovan McNabb still holding the starting role and A.J. Feely second on the Eagles' depth chart. McNabb is 31, however, so the Kolb era may come soon.
In December 2007, as it appeared unlikely that the Eagles would make the NFL playoffs, fairly intense debate emerged among Eagles fans as to whether the Eagles should finish out the 2007 season with McNabb at quarterback, or whether Kolb should be afforded the starting role to gain needed experience for the 2008 and successive seasons. Debate also emerged (amongst the fans, NOT the coaching staff of the Philadelphia Eagles) over whether McNabb or Kolb should be afforded the starting role in the 2008 season, with McNabb opponents arguing that his cumulative injuries and age are beginning to impair his effectiveness. Those opponents fail to acknowledge that the further removed from his injury, the more efficient McNabb played. McNabb advocates, however, say that his experience and general effectiveness warrant his continuing as the Eagles' starting quarterback. McNabb appears to continue to hold favor with Eagles head coach Andy Reid, who promptly restored McNabb to the starting role after McNabb missed two November games due to an ankle and wrist injury.
Reid says Kolb will compete with Feeley to be the team's No. 2 quarterback in training camp.[2]
[edit] Personal
Kolb married his wife Whitney Huddleston in February 2007[3]; they reside in Woolwich Township, New Jersey in suburban Philadelphia.
Kolb majored in business entrepreneurship at the University of Houston.
