In July 1997 he signed for Grimsby Town for a £300,000 fee, joining up with his former manager at Albion, Alan Buckley once more and winning the Auto-Windscreens Shield. [1] A move to Barnsley followed in July 2001, where he experienced relegation to Division Two.[1] Donovan transferred to Rochdale in November 2003.[1] He was loaned out to York City in March 2004 then signed for them on a free transfer in July of the same year.[1]
