Kevin Cahill represents District 101 in the New York State Assembly, which comprises large portions of Ulster County and both the town and village of Rhinebeck in Dutchess County. The towns of Woodstock, Ulster, and New Paltz are all part of his district.
Elected to the Assembly in 1998, Cahill is the current Chairman of the Standing Committee on Energy. Prior to his election he served as the director of a Medicare health care plan under contract with the Health Care Financing Administration. Cahill is an attorney and former Ulster County legislator from 1986 through 1992, when he served as Minority Leader of the Ulster County Legislature. From 1993 to 1994 he served as the Assemblyman from the 101st district.
Cahill is a graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz and Albany Law School.
[edit] Ethics Committee Uproar
Cahill was accused of partisan pandering as Chairman of the Assembly's Ethics and Guidance Committee. In Cahill's two years as Chairman of the committee, Cahill refused to investigate the ethical or criminal actions by many of his Democratic Colleagues. This included Assemblywoman Diane Gordon in 2006 for alleged bribes and conspiracy; Assemblyman Karim Camara for DWI in 2007; Assemblyman Clarence Norman in 2005 for concealing money and extortion; Assemblyman Brian McLaughlin in 2006 for bribery, fraud, and money laundering; and Ryan Karben in 2007 for alleged sexual advances toward male interns.
[edit] The Cahill File
A website was created recently by constituents in the 101st Assembly District to "unmask the truth" about Kevin Cahill. It is called The Cahill File. The website accuses Cahill of voting against a bill to stop the issuing of drivers licenses to illegal immigrants, and going against his constituents wishes by voting in favor of Gay Marriage, among other attacks.
