Kevin Adams (b. 1962 in Pampa, Texas) is an American theatrical lighting designer, scenic designer and visual artist.
In 2007 he received a Tony Award for Best Lighting Design of a Musical for Spring Awakening (musical). Other productions he has designed include Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Passing Strange, Take Me Out (play) and solo shows for Anna Deveare Smith, Eve Ensler, Eric Bogosian, John Leguizamo, John Fleck and Rachel Rosenthal. He has designed concerts for Audra McDonald, Patti Lupone, Sandra Bernhard and The Magnetic Fields. Other designs have been produced at The Public Theater, Roundabout Theatre, Second Stage Theatre, Encores!, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Manhattan Theatre Club, Playwrights Horizons, P.S. 122, Steppenwolf Theatre, Donmar Warehouse, New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Houston Grand Opera and London's West End.
In 2002 he received an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence and in 1998 and 2007 he received Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Lighting of an Off-Broadway production. In 2007 he received the Henry Hewes Design Award for lighting Spring Awakening.
His 1992 video about the 1991 gay bashing murder of Houstonian Paul Broussard, Can't Take That Away From Me, was internationally exhibited including the Margaret Mead Film Festival, American Film Institute and British Film Institute.
His photography is included in the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
He received a master's degree from the California Institute of the Arts in scenic design and is a self-taught lighting designer.
