Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School is a Lutheran high school in the Jackson Township, Wisconsin. The school is affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Its athletic teams are named the Chargers. The focus of the school is, as the mission statement says, "Empowered by God's Word, Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School educates, encourages, and equips God's people for life and for eternity.,"[2] with a clear emphasis on conservative Christian Scriptures. The school is currently fundraising to add a performing arts center, as part of the next phase in construction[3]. As of the 2003-04 school year, the school had an enrollment of 386 students and 30.3 classroom teachers (on a FTE basis, for a student-teacher ratio of 12.7.[1]

Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School has a good athletic program. The school offers baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, soccer and track for boys and basketball, cheerleading, dance team, cross-country, soccer, softball, track and volleyball for girls. [4]

The girls basketball team won consecutive Wisconsin Independent Schools Athletic Association Class B girls championships in 1990 and 1991. The team defeated Beloit Catholic High School on March 1, 1991, to win their second consecutive title.[5]
[edit] Cheerleading
The cheerleading program was named 2005 Division I Large State Champions. The varsity cheer team was the Division III Large Regional Champion from 2003 through 2006 and was the State Champion in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.[6]
[edit] Volleyball
The girls volleyball team won back-to-back Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association state championships in 2002, 2003 and 2004.[7][8] The 2002-2004 streak by the girls volleyball team makes it one of only five teams in the state to have won consecutive championships in three years.[9] The girls volleyball team won the 1988 Wisconsin independent schools Class B championship, taking the round robin competition with a 4-2 record to end Marinette Catholic Central's streak of four consecutive championships.[10]

Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School Football was started in 2002. Now in their 6th season, KML has become a solid football program. Under the direction of Mark Otte, the coaching staff consisting of mainly teachers, spend hours on film and preparation to make the team the best it can be. 2007 marks a huge milestone in Football history as the Chargers entered the playoffs for the first time and progressed to the championship game, taking runner-up honors in a loss to the state champions from West Salem High School.

There are many classes available to students attending KML, some of the more advanced classes include Statistics and Trigonometry, as well as Pre-Calculus AB and BC as well as Calculus. The more advanced science classes include Physics and APES(Advanced Placement Environmental Science) which is a college class. There are also all the basic classes such as U.S. History and U.S. Government. There are a variety of foreign language classes which include German, Spanish, and Latin. There are also classes such as the standard Chemistry and Biology for science and Geometry and Advanced Algebra(Algebra 2) for math.

Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School offers many opportunities to get involved through its growing music department. Currently there are three choirs, two bands, two percussion ensembles, two jazz bands, jazz combos, a flute choir, a clarinet choir, a saxophone ensemble, the "Echoes" show choir, and a brass choir.[11] Private instrumental and vocal lessons are available.
[edit] Extracurricular activities
Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School offers a variety of extracurricular activities. There are clubs for students interested in Spanish, ecology, the fine arts, German, Latin, yearbook, math competitions, a BotsIQ (also known as Battlebots)team, and sound & lighting work. Students interested in drama can participate in Children's Theater, Forensics and Musicals. The school also seeks to cultivate student leadership through Student Council, Cross Trainers, National Honor Society and Taste of Ministry programs.[12]
[edit] Waste water treatment
In 2001, the school built an artificial wetland for waste water management.[13][14] In March 2003, a $9,700 grant from Toyota Motor Sales was received to install a windmill to aerate the wetlands, potentially increasing the facility's effectiveness. The experimental facility is the first of its kind among schools of the upper midwest.[15] The school calls the system "The Green Machine" and uses it as an environmental educational opportunity allowing the school's Ecology Club to assist in its development and maintenance. Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School has been accredited by the Wisconsin Religious and Independent Schools Accreditation (WRISA).[17]
