Keshod is a city and a municipality in Junagadh district in the Indian state of Gujarat.

== History ==
Keshod town was under Jurisdiction of Junagadh city before independence. It was recognized as Nawab’s City prior to independence. The roots of Keshod lie ages ago. Local belief state that Keshod town was established in the era of the pandavas. It is said that the mother of pandavas, Kunti had a bath in river utavalia and with wet hairs; she set up a monument of The Lord Shiva. This monument was then known as Kuntnath Mahadev. As the time passed, people came to this place and start settling around the temple and the Utavalia River. The settlement was named as Keshodak (Kesh + Udak), later became famous as Keshod. It seems that the town was walled during the governance period of the Nawab. A few segments of the decayed wall are still in existence in the town.
Initially Keshod village developed between the banks of Utavalia River in southern direction and western parts of Veraval-Rajkot highway. The old village continued to develop towards southern direction. After establishment of the railway track, Keshod developed on the barren lands of eastern of the track. Keshod has not developed on northern side showing development outlining towards south. Moreover, the railway station and bus station is located in the southern of the town, which further the development of the town towards the south.
Keshod is having largest population in the Taluka and fifth in Junagadh District. It is also acting as the taluka headquarter. Keshod Nagar Palika came into existence in year 1986 under the Gujarat Urban Planning and City Development Act, 1976. As per this act, ULB is obligatory to provide basic infrastructure like water supply, drainage, sewerage, and roads and services such as conservancy.
== Regional Setting ==
Keshod town is situated on the Kathiawar peninsula in Junagadh district of Western Gujarat. It has an altitude of 42 m (137 Ft) above MSL. Junagadh is the District level administrative head quarter for Keshod town which is 37 km away in South-west from Junagadh. In global context, Keshod town has latitude 21.3° N and longitude 70.25° E.
Keshod has Agatrai village in the North, Sondarda village at the South, Porbandar city in the North-West and Pipli village in the West. A historical place named Chorwad is located the South to Keshod.
Keshod is well connected to the other parts of Gujarat and India by various transportation modes such as roads, railways and Air. Town is connected by broad gauge railway line of Western railway with Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Junagadh, Veraval and other important cities of Gujarat. Town is situated on Junagadh-Veraval National Highway No. 8D, Keshod town has a Major three roads which connected Keshod town to other part of Gujarat. Entrance road in the north of town is connected to Junagadh city and road in south connected to Veraval is about 45 km away famous for fishing Industry. There is east side road known as Mangrol road which connect town with Porbander Highway. Road in the east side has a link with Ajab-Talala road. Thus, Keshod town is well connected with surrounding places.
