Kessim

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kessim (plural of Kes) are the elders of the Beta Israel, also known as the Falashas, the Ethiopian Jews. Their duty is to maintain and preserve the traditions and customs of the people. This has become more difficult by the people's encounter with the modernity of Israel, where most of the Ethiopian Jewish people now live. The present day leader of the Kessim is Chief Kes Raphael Hadane. [1]
