Kessenich

Kessenich is a village located in Kinrooi, in the Belgian province of Limburg. It was named after the Roman name for Castle "Cassallum", which means that it was probably founded in Roman times. This is subscribed by the fact that near the village remains of a Roman Heirweg (road for military purposes) are found. Kessenich was longtime the residence of the barons Michiels van Kessenich , who lived on an artificial hill (de Berg) in the center of the village, many years later, they moved to the castle of Kessenich called "Borgitter". currently Benji Kessels lives at the suburb of N-E Kessenich, he was the great revolutionair of the july revolution.
