I don't think Kermit spoke at Henson's funeral. Steve Whitmire was not officially named as Henson's successor for Kermit until MUCH later, and his first appearance performing Kermit was in the special the Muppet did remembering Jim Henson. Can anyone give a cite for Kermit speaking at Henson's funeral (outside of a video retrospective or something of the sort)? I think whoever added that info is confusing Edgar Bergen's funeral with Henson's -- since Henson and Kermit did speak at that funeral. -prnyouth

I thought Brian Henson voiced Kermit now. The Jim Henson page lists someone else. Anyone certain of this? Did Kermit make any appearances before Sesame Street? -rmhermen

Yes, he did. I saw him on an old Ed Sullivan Show rerun. That crazy frog was on drugs or something. I don't know specifics, though. --Stephen Gilbert

Brian Henson as Kermit is just a popular misconception. Steve Whitmire has taken over Kermit (and Ernie). Other lesser Henson-voiced characters are done by others, or have been retired (as happened to Scooter when his voice died of AIDS).

Kermit was the name (and recognizably the form, if somewhat different) of one of the character's in Sam and Friends -- he's been around in one way or another almost since Jim Henson starting abusing fabric on a professional basis. --Paul Drye

Kermit the Frog was started as a link from Kermit (not the frog). How come it took this before people start creating the Kermit and Henson articles?

Again, the specter of copyright violation rears its ugly head.  :( As much as we love the picture of Kermit the Frog in his entry, I'm about 99% positive that it is *very* copyrighted. It should most likely be removed. Modemac

Copyright shouldn't be a problem here--it's quite clearly fair use. Trademark shouldn't apply here either. If it makes you happier, I'll replace this photo with one of my own stuffed Kermit so we won't have any issue with the copoyright on the original photo. --LDC

It's not about making me happy...it's the fact that Kermit is licensed by Disney these days. And Disney is notorious for protecting its images, as anyone who follows the history of that company will tell you. (They even threatened to sue an elementary school that had Mickey Mouse painted on the wall. I wish I was kidding.) Modemac

It should be noted that Kermit the Frog was named after Purdue philosophy professor Theodore Kermit Scott, a childhood friend of Jim Henson.

sadkermit.com i saw a pretty funny video of kermit doing the Nine Inch Nails song Hurt, and then went to the site mentioned in the video and found like 4 other songs. im just curious if anyone knows if thats steve whitmire or some other person doing kermits voice.

Video is unlicensed, does not represent the character, and obviously a parody. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia of facts. Not a dumping ground for fan made videos. —scarecroe 23:32, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
We include information about parodies on many other articles. The video exists (fact), has a website devoted to it (fact) and represents the character (character is both named 'Kermit' and resembles him - most likely a licensed replica Kermit was used in the video), all of which makes it relevant to the article. exolon 23:39, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Feel free to move it to a "parody" section. By the way the video might be "fan made" but according to YouTube it's stats are :- Views: 940,292, Comments: 1080, Favorited: 6607 times so it's obviously being taken notice of.exolon 23:45, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Do we really need full plot summaries for them? Seems kinda ad-like, or at least drifting far off-topic for the page at hand. DMacks 16:19, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

I think we need to only include those parodies that have reliable sources for them, or are from well known sources. "Sad Kermit" has been mentioned in at least two major newspapers, and the "Family Guy" parodies qualify as they're from a major TV series so they both qualify. I will attempt to dig out sources for the others later. If anyone can add good sources for the others notability, so much the better. exolon 18:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Just because a YouTube video also has a domain name doesn't make it reliable. If you include your favorite, you have to include all the others as well.
???? I said SadKermit qualifies as two major newspapers have done articles on it, not that it was notable due to having a domain. And no, we don't include every minor one - everything has to meet WP:VERIFY. SadKermit qualifies due to it's references, and the Family Guy parodies qualify due to the fact that it's a notable tv series. exolon 03:45, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Don't need to involve admins if we lowly editors are working towards resolving it. Are we heading for something of a WP:CONSENSUS to remove them? I could see keeping the intro paragraph (often parodied due to recognizeablity) since that itself seems encyc and on-topic. But all the rest are just examples of that. Surely, the fact that Kermit is often parodied is relevant to the article, I agree. But as you said, such detail is way overboard and just isn't notable anymore. I would say something like, "Due to his popularity (etc)... examples include several references on Family Guy, dozens of fan-made videos, vomitting Kermit from Late Night with Conan O'Brien, MAD Magazine, Saturday Night Live and comic strips such as Mother Goose and Grimm and Off the Mark." I just dropped most of the references, leaving Family Guy and Sad Kermit. I also left in Meet the Feebles, but I haven't seen it, so I don't know if it's accurate.--SarekOfVulcan 17:00, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

  • I've put SadKermit back in (removed by —scarecroe). This has become notable enough for the following major publications to publish articles about it.
  1. The Victoria Times-Colonist, a British Columbia newspaper with a circulation of 72,0000
  2. The Chicago Sun-Times, a USA city newspaper with a circulation of 368,000
  3. The London Free Press, a Canadian newpaper with a circulation of 115,000

There are also lesser citations. If three major newspapers have written articles about this, it's notable. exolon 20:44, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

I removed sadkermit on the basis of the discussion here and edit summaries made by SarekOfVulcan. We've been over this before on this talk page: you can cite as many links as you want, there's still nothing notable about that youtube video in direct relation to the Muppet character. —scarecroe 01:29, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
That's a good distinction, Scarecroe...the thing may be notable, but that notability does not seem to be in relation to the page here. This page isn't about everything in relation to everything that relates to Kermit, but only about things directly related to Kermit. If SadKermit (or any other parody) is itself notable, then create a page for it ("notability of a topic" being the threshold for a page to exist). DMacks 02:17, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

"A student doesn't like his commencement speaker" doesn't seem encyclopediacly (?) relevant here..."people have opinions" isn't notable. His concern has little to do with Kermit per se. "I wanted to hear a female rock star, not a male president" isn't an indictment of George Bush, or of males or presidents in general. Seems like the comment that's getting persistently added here is more of a local issue related to the college, not general WP interest about Kermit. DMacks 16:51, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
