Kerala Students Union or KSU is a pioneer of the students movement of the Indian National Congress Party which has given new life to the Congress Party in Kerala, south Indian state.
KSU, Kerala Students Union was formed on 1957 May 30th in Alapuzha. The origin of Kerala Students Union was as a consolidation of student organisations working in different platforms opposing SFI. Thus a new student organisation framed in Alapuzha, Mullackal Thanuvayyar buildings under the leadership of George Tharakan as President & Vayalar Ravi as General Secretary, officially announced the birth of a new era, in the corridors of kollam fathima matha national college.
As its elder brother ISU (independent students union) the consolidation of various students organisations KSU also decided to work as a students wing in favour of Indian National Congress. The growth of KSU in Kerala was very rapid and it flourished state wide.
But the major important milestone in the history of KSU and in Kerala politics was the historical 'Vimochana Samaram' by which ended the communist rule in 1958.
