Kerala Association of Kansas City
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
KAKC or Kerala Association of Kansas City is a non-profit organization managed by the Kansas City based Malayalis or Keralites (Malayalam speaking people or the people from the South Indian state of Kerala). The KAKC brings together the community of Malayalis who live in Kansas City and its suburbs by providing social and cultural venues for the ever-growing community.
Though the Kansas City area saw its first Malayali settler as early as 1967, the KAKC was not founded until 2003 when it was registered as a non-profit organization. In May 2004, the KAKC was officially recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a Federal Tax-Exempt 501 (C) (4) Social Welfare Organization.
KAKC promotes the cultural heritage of Kerala and social enrichment of Kansas City based Malayalis by organizing
- Events celebrating various festivals observed by Malayalis, such as Christmas and Onam
- Social venues such as the KAKC annual picnic
- Quarterly Malayalam movies
- Celebration of Kerala Piravi
- Sporting activities such as volleyball and badminton
The KAKC also publishes a monthly newsletter for the members.
