KEPN, 1600AM, is an all-sports radio station licensed to Lakewood, Colorado and serving the Denver, Colorado area. On January 1, 2007, it became the local affiliate of ESPN Radio for the Denver area and the "Front Range." It is owned by Lincoln Financial Media.
Before that date, it was "16Kicks" KCKK and played classic country music. The format was moved to another station in the market, which had been KYOL.
[edit] History
The 1600 kHz frequency was originally assigned the call letters KLAK. In 1966, they opened a new transmitter and also began broadcasting on the FM band at 107.5 MHz. The FM station is now KQKS, also owned by Lincoln Financial Media. According to the FCC, other call signs for this station have been KRXY, KWMZ, and KYGO.
In June 2007 Lincoln announced that would put its television and radio stations up for sale. KEPN, along with its sister stations in Denver is among the properties being shopped around by Lincoln.
