[edit] re: Sally Stapleton
I've deletd the reference to Sally Stapleton ("two-time Pullitzer winner") as a hoax. If this is wrong, please explain here and reinsert. Bucketsofg✐ 21:24, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Not a hoax, certainly, but possibly over-inflated. It's been a long time since I was around, but look at http://www.pulitzer.org/year/1999/spot-news-photography/bio/index.html, which shows the Provost of Columbia University awarding just such a prize to Ms. Stapleton, who works for the Associated Press. Her fame certainly wouldn't match Sheryl's, but people who follow journalism would definitely have seen her work. A site for one of the local elementary schools claims that she is a three-time Pulitzer winner (http://www.kennett.k12.mo.us/schools/masterson/wall.htm).
-
- A tad further explanation: Sally Stapleton was a photo editor for the Associated Press (ending as chief photo editor in 2003), so when the Associated Press won a Pulitzer for photojournalism, she was, perhaps, considered responsible. Certainly in the local area, she'd be seen in this light ... perhaps even if she wasn't even on-site when the photos were taken. Renaissongsman 03:27, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] re: adding Fred Lasswell
- While we're on the subject, I'd think Fred Lasswell, who drew the comic (and was arguably the co-creator of) Barney Google and Snuffy Smith from 1942 to 2000 or so deserves mention, as he was born there, also. Renaissongsman 21:58, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] re: "Angela Williams"
There was an unsigned "famous person" reference to an "Angela Williams", 'wrestler and porn star', 'deceased'. I've removed it for two reasons: verifiability (do we mean the daughter-in-law of WWF star "Jimmy Valiant"??), and the fact that linkage for "Angela Williams" refers to the California-born Olympic track and field athlete. If this entry was correct, please note sources and create a stub for the "other" Angela Williams, or leave it unlinked. Renaissongsman 23:53, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Area inconsistency
Why is the area given as 17,2 square kilometers in the infobox, but as 18,2 square kilometers in the text? (The values in square miles are also different.) --Smeira (talk) 20:08, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
