The Kenya Police, which report to the Commissioner of Police in the Office of the President, fields about 35,000 officers. It is divided into the following Police formations:
- General Service Unit
- Anti Stock Theft
- Kenya Police Criminal Investigation Department
- Kenya Police Traffic Department
- Kenya Police College
- Kenya Police Airwing
- Kenya Railway Police Unit
- Kenya Police Dog Unit
- Kenya Police Tourism Unit
- Kenya Airports Police Unit
- Kenya Maritime Police Unit
Who work in the divisions of the various Kenyan provinces:
Each province is headed by a Provincial Police Officer (PPO). Each province is further divided into police divisions headed by Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD). Each police division is divided into police stations headed by Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS). Kenya Police Headquarters is located in the heart of Nairobi Town at Vigilance House on Harambee Avenue
The current police commissioner is Major General Mohammed Hussein Ali. He is deputized Lawrence Mwadime who is the Principal Deputy Police Commissioner. Mr David Kimaiyo is the Director of Police Operations while Henry Chenge Gathogo is the Director of Police Personnel.
All police units report to the Commissioner of Police who in turn reports to the Office of the President through the Minister for Internal Security and Provincial Administration. The commissiner is responsible for all administrative matters and personnel matters affecting the force. The Kenya Police is governed by the force standing orders which governs the formation of various units and their scope of work.

[edit] The Kenya Police in Contemporary Kenya
Following a history of human rights abuses by the Kenya Police, efforts are being made to reform the force.[1] Kenyan Policemen are poorly paid and have to make use with archaic housing that has not been expanded or renovated since the 1970's. This has made them very suceptible to corruption and crime. Extortion and bribery are not unknown practices and the Kenyan people rank the police among the most corrupt bodies in the country.[citation needed]
