The 2008 Kentucky Democratic primary took place on May 20, 2008. The state was allocated 60 delegates to the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Of these, 51 are pledged delegates tied to the results of the May 20th primary, and 9 are so-called superdelegates[1]. Of the 51 pledged delegates tied to the primary result, 34 are allocated as district delegates according to the vote in Ketucky's 6 congressional districts, and 17 are allocated according to the state-wide vote. Kentucky had a closed primary; it was open only to registered Democrats. Those wishing to participate in the primary had to register as Democrats 28 days prior to the primary.[1]
As of April 30th, 2 superdelegates had pledged support for Sen. Barack Obama, and 3 for Sen. Hillary Clinton.[1]
There are 3,545 precincts in 120 counties with 1,629,845 Democratic registered voters, and the turnout was 43.0% of the registered voters.[2]
