The Kenton County School District (the definite article is part of the district's official name) is charged with educating the young people in a large portion of Kenton County, Kentucky. The district's boundaries are all of Kenton County with exceptions of those cities who have Independent School Districts. This included unincorporated areas of the county which are extremely rural.
The district operates 18 schools: 11 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 3 high schools. Current enrollment in all Kenton County Schools is 13,140 about 33% of the under age 18 population in the county.1 However, a large portion of the county's population lives in one of the county's four "independent" districts:
In addition, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington operates 17 schools in Kenton County, and other religious schools operate in the county as well.
