Kenton-on-Sea
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kenton-on-Sea, more commonly known as Kenton, is a small coastal town on the Sunshine Coast, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It is situated between the Bushman's River and the Kariega River, and lies approximately half way between the industrial centres of East London (180km) and Port Elizabeth (130km).
Kenton has a population of only about 1000 people, but is a popular holiday resort, and the population triples over the period of the December Summer holidays. The area has many pristine beaches and green rolling hills, and a nature reserve along the shore ensures that no housing developments can spoil the coast.
Unusually for a small town in South Africa, Kenton is predominantly English-speaking, while Boesmansriviermond on the opposite banks of the Bushman's River, is predominantly Afrikaans-speaking. Being in the Eastern Cape, the townships and surrounding areas are Xhosa-speaking.
