Gammon was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1992 NFL Draft, after a four-year career at Pittsburg State University. He spent four seasons in New Orleans, and signed with the Chiefs as a free agent in February of 2000. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2005 as a special teams player, handling the long snapping duties for the AFC team. Gammon has a recently published book on the shelves called "Life's a Snap". The Chiefs released Gammon prior to the 2007 season.

In January 2008, Gammon returned to PSU, in Pittsburg, Kansas, and serves as the university’s first major gifts officer for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
