Kemalpaşa is a town and a district of İzmir Province of Turkey, very close to İzmir city, at about 25 km (16 mi) from the center.
The town's name in ancient and medieval times was Nymphaion and this name was echoed in the Turkish name "Nif" which was in use until the early years of the Republic of Turkey. The name Nif was changed to Kemalpaşa in honor of Mustafa Kemal Paşa who had spent the night of 8 September 1922 here, before the closing chapter of the Occupation of İzmir the next day, putting an end to the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922) in the field. The name "Nif" is no longer used for the city, even colloquially, although its status of former name is common knowledge. But the hill on the foot of which the town extends is still called Mount Nif (Dağı).
The city is well known for its cherries (Kemalpaşa kirazı) and also its pine forests, and situated close to İzmir right on the axis of İzmir-Ankara highway, has a fast-growing industrial base.

[edit] History
The historical background of Kemalpaşa, which lies 29 km (18 mi) west of İzmir, dates back to 1300 BC. It was host to the Hittites, ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman civilisations. The Karabel relief situated within the district boundaries was till recently the only Hittite trace in western Anatolia, but the recent discovery and the explorations currently conducted in the prehistoric mound of Ulucak Höyüğü, near the depending municipality of Ulucak, is likely to shed new lights to the region's ancient history.
Nicean Emperor John III Doukas Vatatzes had had built a summer palace in Nymphaion and had spent much time here. He had died in Nymphaion in 1254.
Kemalpaşa (Nif, Nymphaion) was one of the centers that were densely populated by Anatolian Greeks till the first quarter of the 20th century, before the Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations.
