Talk:Kelly (name)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is no John Kelly so far listed here, but I have already pointed out on the John Kelly talk page that there are at least five of them:
- the Irish politician the current John Kelly stub is about
- the Admiral of the Fleet Sir John Kelly (see HMS Victory, 1931-1936)
- the "established fiddler" (see Music of Ireland)
- the author of the 2003 novel Checkmate
- the U.S. baseball umpire referred to in the Baseball Hall of Fame balloting, 1946 article.
Anyone knowledgeable about any of those guys? <KF> 18:20, Feb 28, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Kellie as a guys name
I'm a danish guy living in the netherlands and my name is Kellie. I'd like to say that guys can also be spelled Kellie. So i removed the parenthesis about Kelli and Kellie being female.
"kelly" This word appears in the short story "50 grand", in "Men Without Women" by Ernest Hemmingway. It seems to be an article of clothing. Praps a green hat? Any ideas??
[edit] Meaning?
- Kelly has a more common translation of "warrior" or "aggressive" instead of "strife, contention". (Irish: War, only used as a first name since the latter half of the 20th century; Gaelic: warrior, Scottish: wood, also only used since second half of 20th century for first names; Teutonic: born on a farm.) From where do strife and contention come? -- Asinine17 (talk) 21:39, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
