Kelly Nolan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kelly K. Nolan was a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student who went missing June 23rd, 2007,[1] after leaving Amy's Café in downtown Madison, Wisconsin at 11:30PM. She left with a staff member of the bar who said that he later passed her off to a man claiming to be a friend of hers. The following morning she was reported missing.[2]

A body believed to be Nolan was found on Monday July 9th, 2007, in the Town of Dunn, about 11 miles south of Madison. Due to the decomposition of the body, a forensics team was brought in to verify whether or not this was actually the body of Nolan or another missing resident of Dane County. On Tuesday July 10, 2007, the Dane County coroner confirmed that the body found was that of Kelly Nolan.[3][4]

Due to the nature of Nolan's death, Joel DeSpain, spokesman for the Madison Police Department, has announced that the death is now being treated as a homicide, and that there are no suspects at this time.

The Nolan family has offered a $10,000.00 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person responsible for this crime.[5][6] The Madison Police Department has also announced that they will be offering a reward of $10,000.00 for information leading to the person responsible for her murder.[7][8] A third reward has been set up by the Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation.[9] As of July 13, 2007, they have put up $5,000.00 in reward money. However, this fund is open to public donation, so this reward amount may rise quickly as time goes on.

On July 21st, 2007, a funeral for Nolan took place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.[10] Hundreds of people attended her funeral.

The search for Kelly Nolan gained notability when many national news organizations picked up the story.[11][12][13][14] Fox news, for example, dedicated a portion of their airtime on July 9, 2007, as breaking news following the police search of Dunn.
