Kelli Dayton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kelli Dayton, also known as Kelli Ali (a name she took to honour her father, Michael Ali) born June 30, 1974 in Birmingham, England is a female vocalist most recognized for being lead singer for the trip-hop group Sneaker Pimps. Though she was featured prominently in both the songs and the music videos for the album Becoming X (the group finding fame following the release of the hit single "6 Underground"), she was released from the group in 1998 when they decided to do vocals for their own songs.

Kelli moved on to a solo career, starting with Tigermouth in 2003. With this album, she moved from trip-hop to a more dreampop sound. The album featured hits such as "Sunlight in the Rain" and "Kids," which featured ex-Doors drummer John Densmore. She toured alongside Garbage in 2003 and released a follow-up album, Psychic Cat, in mid-2004. The second album was more of a return to Kelli's rock and roll roots, and featured musician-turned-author Tony O'Neill on keyboards.

In February 2005, Kelli sat with Auralgasms.com to discuss her career with the Sneaker Pimps, her solo work and her future aspirations.

Kelli was originally part of a group called Psycho Drama before joining the Lumieres (as their songwriter, singer, and lead guitarist) a few years later. The Lumieres only had one major single, "Cinder Hearts".

As of April 2006, she is in Japan recording and writing tracks with Hoshino Hidehiko from Buck-Tick and Cube Juice for the band Dropz.

Kelli recently posted on her official site that she is working on a new solo album and plans for it to be released sometime in 2008. The new album will have a different direction in sound compared to her last two solo albums.
