Keith S. Lockwood was born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1964. He was a teacher of children who are deaf or hard of hearing in the New York City public schools for fifteen years. His ability as an interpreter in American Sign Language was of particular use in his work as a teacher of the deaf. His experiences came to reinforce his long standing view points on constructivist practice and Jean Piaget's work. His study "Contemporary Reading Practice in an Urban Day School for Children who are deaf or hard of hearing," is regarded as a meaningfully modern intepretation of Piagetian theory, and its application to the linguistic and educational development of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Dr. Lockwood holds a Ph.D. from New York University in the Department of Applied Psychology with a specialization in the Rehabilitation of the deaf. His articles include " Let Them Play with Language," and "Abbott Affirms The Rights of All Children."
