The 9000 series (9000系 9000-kei?) is an EMU series operated by Keio Corporation on the Keiō Line and its branches in Tokyo and Kanagawa, Japan.

The first set of the 9000 series started to service in January 2001. The original model, called 0 series, was built in the format of 8-cars x 8 sets (9701F to 9708F). Although the 9000 series was designed to run on the Toei Shinjuku Line (through service from the Keiō Line), in those days, the ATC system of the Toei Shinjuku Line did not accept VVVF control system that the 9000 series employed so that 0 series was built without equipment needed on the Toei Shinjuku Line.

In May 2005, ATC system of Toei Shinjuku Line was changed to new system which accept VVVF control system. However, instead of modifying the existing cars, a new version with Shinjuku Line equipment, called the 30 series (9030 series), was introduced in 10-car formation. Building of the 30 series is ongoing as of 2008.

The front end design is based on the design of the former 5000 series. The body is stainless steel and manufactured with the Nippon Sharyo's unique "block structure" system (日車式ブロック工法). Some sets were built at Tokyu Car Corporation, but body structures are the same as the Nippon Sharyo-made sets. The front portion is steel paited in ivory white.

The master controller is one-handle type with a T-shape handle. Speed meter is analog and can indicate up to 140km/h. A train navigation system (TNS) is installed.

[edit] Lines of operation
[edit] 0 series
Although it can be used on all 1,372 mm gauge lines of Keiō, it is mainly used on the Keiō Line, the Takao Line and the Sagamihara Line.
On day time, it is mainly used on Local and Rapid services. It is also used on Semi Special Express service with 10-car format. When it organizes 10-car sets, two cars of 6000 series are coupled.

The main usage of 30 series sets is the through express service on the Keiō Line, the Sagamihara Line and the Toei Shinjuku Line. It is rarely used on the section west of Chōfu Station on the Keiō Line.
