[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history
Greetings fellow Military historian! I noticed your contributions to Unterseeboot articles. You are, therefore, hereby, cordially invited to join us at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history. We are one of the largest and (IMHO) best project groups here. We not only have lively, thought provoking discussions, we get things done! And it is a good thing too, since there is a lot of work needed in this highly important and fascinating field of study. So look around and see what we have to offer, then if you like, simply add your name to our Members list and this tag:
This user is a member of the Military history WikiProject. |
to your userpage, then consider yourself one of us. Best regards,--Bryson 03:27, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Unterseeboot 89
Generally, Wikipedia has a policy agaisnt disambiguation pages (such as this one) which do not point to any articles. Perhaps you would be willing to write short stubs on the different subs, so that this article is not deleted? J Milburn 11:31, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, you could just rephrase it slightly, and make it into a list of the subs, rather than a disambiguation page. That would probably actually be a better option, becuase, as you say, there is information on the page anyway. J Milburn 11:54, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, if you are not going to make it into a valid disambiguation page OR a valid list, it should be deleted. Wikipedia's policy comes before the policy of specific Wikiprojects. J Milburn 12:01, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry, I didn't realise that that was the case. My original message was that it would probably be best to write articles on each of them, I thought perhaps you were just going to write the disambiguation page and hope that someone would write the articles on the subs. Happy editing. J Milburn 12:11, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unterseeboot 88
A tag has been placed on Unterseeboot 88, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.
If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Kamope · talk · contributions 12:18, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!
Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, peer review, and project-wide collaboration.
- We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
- Our requests page has extensive lists of requested articles, images, maps, and translations.
- We've developed a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kirill Lokshin 17:17, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Uploading images
Decided to make the reply here so it's easier for you to see it :) I dont, as a rule, put copyrighted images on Commons, because AFAIK Fair Use is something that only the English Wikipedia recognises. Therefore I put the images directly on the English Wikipedia, adding the fair use rationale and tag that you can see on the images I've uploaded. (Feel free to copy and paste to your hearts delight if you find the rationale ok btw) Abel29a 18:39, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for Advice
Dear Keallu, I wanted to thank you for your helpful advice about fluency in articles related to U-boats, and infoboxes for the latter. I have tried to be more fluent, but if you could be more specific with your concerns, or give an example from within my own work, I feel sure my articles would improve greatly. Regarding the infoboxes - the site where I obtain my information, while being a complete and highly useful resource, does not present much of the information needed to fill the infobox. I am quite new to Wikipedia, and am still learning how to do things, and I find infoboxes quite complicating. If you know of an article or anything that could help me improve my skills in this area, I would certainly appreciate it. Otherwise, I prefer to simply leave them out, because when I try with infoboxes, I usually make a horrible mess. As I have said, I am new, and have only been an active user of Wikipedia for about 1 month. Thank you again, and sorry about the lateness of my reply, Anonymous Dissident 22:45, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- Dear Keallu,
Thank you form your swift reply, and even more thanks for your brief but easy to understand explanation of infoboxes. Your help is so appreciated. I will also use the site you recommended to me. I feel I owe you alot. Because of you, my articles will be greatly improved. Equipped with the understanding of how to use infoboxes, I'm sure I'll be able to create many more articles of better quality. Thanks a million, Anonymous Dissident 23:05, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hello again Keallu,
I have written another U boat article, with what I hope is more precision and fluency than my previous ones. It is entitled Unterseeboot 777. I have done the best I can, using the infobox, and adding some interesting facts. If you have time, I was wondering whether it would be possible that you examine the article, and report to me any faults, errors or inconsistencies you see, aswell as improvements that could be made to make the article just that little bit better. Thanks once again, your advice is gold. Anonymous Dissident 03:19, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reference in Supply-Chain Operations Reference
- Rolf G. Poluha: Application of the SCOR Model in Supply Chain Management. Youngstown, NY 2006, ISBN 1-934043-10-9.
I see you created Supply-Chain Operations Reference with this reference. The isbn you gave was incorrect, and from what I can find, that book wasn't published until after you wrote the article. I'll be removing it if no one can offer an explanation. -- Ronz 15:53, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use disputed for Image:Viktor Schütze.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Viktor Schütze.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:30, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] SMS Amazone (1843)
A {{prod}} template has been added to the article SMS Amazone (1843), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:AG Weser.jpg}
Thank you for uploading Image:AG Weser.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
