[edit] Diamond Head, Hawaii

One of the pictures on the Diamond Head, Hawaii article is up for nomination to become a featured picture! You can see the picture here. Please add a supporting vote on its nomination page here or, more specifically, here, if you feel it's worthy. Thanks for your help! Cathryn 16:16, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks For The Help

The question I had was in regards to Edmonton Oilers in the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs. I think it can become featured, but i'm having trouble finding many pictures for it since most are copyrighted. I'll check the link you told me about, and if that doesn't work, i'll put the helpme thing back up there.

Thanks for the help. Attic Owl 23:10, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My first edits.

Okay I fixed a few typos i found in my searching. My first edits whoopie!! Check them out! --Jak 22:09, 11 August 2006 (UTC) The "k" leads to my contribs.

When spell checking you have to watch out for grammar along with the spelling. So contirbs. would be count ribs and whoopie would be who peed according to spell check.

[edit] Sorry, my bad

The problem with the Advanced Learner's Dictionary page was that i had put a hidden comment after 1943 which hid the rest of the page as well. Now i have a strange red thing instead. How do I get rid of it and putin a genuine hidden comment?

Thanks for responding so quickly. :) Rimi 06:42, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] follow-up question

Thanks for your help with my question, I am still trying to resolve the issue. When I went to tag the image (Playboy_March_2005.jpg) uploader's talk page, I discovered that this was not the first problem with a violation. What is the policy on repeat violation offenders? [edit] follow-up question from CherylB-TOC

Thank you for your help. Can I get rid of the redirect so my main user page is clean? If I can, what do I do? And thank you for the gentle help re: signing off. I'm new to Wikipedia and appreciate the help. Thank you. CherylB-TOC 14:57, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Keakealani, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

[edit] About the help

Hi again! Thanks for answering my reply. Look, it's a conflict with the Someguy0830, it started in the Cartoon Cartoons Template, I tried to change it to add more shows because of the new bumpers at Cartoon Network that included both the old and the new characters. I tried to explain my point of view but we started a little reverting war, he directing me into old discussions. Anyway, I decided to leave that template as he said but only linking from and to the referenced page, and created a new one called CN Original Shows, which in a way is Cartoon Cartoons plus the newer ones. After that I proceed to work in renewing some episode lists for some shows, and I took the format that I designed for Codename: Kids Next Door episode list that seemed to work well and being liked. And again this user reverted my edits allegating that it's too complicated, but I can't understand what can be complicated about a table. And also he has changed the Template I created back into his own. So what should I do? I don't like that he is not respecting my work, but maybe my table is as complicated as he says? Thanks in advance. Numbuh 201 06:55, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Not to start an argument, but you left something out there. After his ideas were rejected and he created a new template, he completely replaced every instance of the old one. The latter is merely a style dispute. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 06:58, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
You rejected my idea because you think yours is the only right. The Cartoon Cartoon classification also should apply to new shows because they are done or produced by Cartoon Network and are featured in the propaganda. And if not, they are part of CN Original Shows. People reading old cartoon Cartoons articles are falsly lead to believe that new ones were not created. And about the style dispute, I don't now if it is your way of takeing revenge or not but you are not respecting other people work just because you don't like it. Numbuh 201 07:02, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!

[edit] So what are

some of your postings that have been labeled as SPAM ? Let me know, send me some links and i'll give a totally unbiased opinion. Carptrash 06:17, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

I haven't had any of my contributions labelled as spam, due to the fact that I do follow policy and verify my edits before submitting them. Thanks, but I'm not sure why you're assuming my edits have been labelled as spam. —Keakealani 16:53, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
I found this posting somewhere:
"Got a message saying my contributions were spam, but they aren't and there is no one to respond to."
and thought it was from you, but perhaps you were just responding to someone else who'd posted that. I must be, as Led Zepplin put it, Dazed and Confused. Sorry about that. Carptrash 17:17, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
No, that was someone I was responding to at the Help Desk...Don't remember who, though. —Keakealani 17:34, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza

Hi there! I'm a member of Esperanza, and I want to make it known to the world that I am with one of them green letters that you can click on that redirects you to your esperanza page, but I cannot fathom out how to do it. As you have accomplished it yourself, would you please help me??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Richard n (talkcontribs)

You would change your signature via Preferences - it involves fiddling a little bit with HTML. If you're not familiar with HTML, I can help you, but I'm not really sure exactly what you want, yet. Welcome to Esperanza, anyway! —Keakealani 02:29, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

thanks for telling me!! how do you get your font to be different colors????? and how can you change your signature on wikipedia??? how long have you been a wikipedian???

Tinkerbell441 03:28, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

I used HTML to modify my userpage - basically you can use to colour the text, and then close it off with (without the spaces, that's just to show you). You can change your signature via Special:Preferences. And I've been on Wikipedia for...a couple months now, I guess. —Keakealani 06:58, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Signature

[edit] Samantha

Why the article about "Samantha PowerPC motherboard", "AmigaOne" and "Pegasos" was deleted? Is this related to "Intel Inside" campaign? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 210.210.145.9 (talkcontribs) 12:16, 22 October 2006 (UTC).

The articles you mentioned did not fit Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for articles. I don't know what campaign you are referring to, but I don't think that's the case, as much as that Wikipedia editors like to keep Wikipedia within its intent as an encyclopedia. —Keakealani 20:32, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your msg on my talk

Thanks for your welcome message on my talk, Keakealani. I've been registered for a few months and i'm wondering if it's a belated welcome or whether it's something i did that caught your attention. I'd like to know and I ask plainly out of curiosity (to understand how things work here). I have a few questions about images and fair use - where can i find this information? I wish to upload images shot by me - what's the procedure? Lastly are you male or female (if you don't find this question personal)? That's a nice sounding name you have - anything from Hawaiian folklore perchance? -- mowgli 04:21, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I noticed your name in the New User Log, and yeah, it was kind of belated, but I had noticed you weren't formally welcomed, so..yeah. As for images...I'm not really super familiar, but generally fair use is when the image directly relates to the article (for example, an article about Google could justify using the Google logo) and there's no way to create a public domain image and it's necessary to illustrate the topic. If you've taken an image yourself, you can use upload it here. Be sure to add in the comments that you created the image yourself. I think Wikipedia:Images is worth checking out, since it explains things a lot better than I do. And..I'm female. You're right that my name's Hawaiian...it's actually my real-life middle name, which I use often on the internet as a pseudonym (since it's rarely in use). I don't mind at all, and let me know if you need more help! —Keakealani 05:22, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, then I must really thank you for the welcome (and it's a nicely drafted welcome too). Now I know whom to ask in case I have questions. I was a bit putoff by the unfriendliness initially as i got no welcome + my questions in the "pump" went abegging. Btw i am an active Uncyclopedian and that's where i learnt "wikifying" etc. I think I should add some userboxes in my userpage now. I'm a big fan of the "wiki" format and the concept behind this encyclopedia. -- mowgli 05:52, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Ah, explains why you've already got a nice signature and all that. I love Uncyclopedia...it's wonderful when I just need to laugh at something stupidly funny. Userboxes are always good, too. And thanks, about my welcome message. —Keakealani 05:56, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Heck, I gotta reply anyway...!

Thank you for the compliment. New pages patrol is often a thankless job. My pleasure to have helped. In fact, I just spent time actually editing an article! Can you believe it?  :) Mission San Juan Capistrano just got a much-needed tuneup. I was there earlier today for the first time in years and years. Incredibly beautiful and peaceful place. - Lucky 6.9 05:34, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I am speaking about Samantha article and not AmigaOne article. Based on discussion with Raffaelle, it's better to move the page temporarily to: http://www.amigawiki.com/cgi-bin/wiki.pl/Samantha The page can be deleted now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.210.145.7 (talkcontribs) 15:13, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your welcome message

Hi Keakeleani, thanks for your welcome. I have contributed with some minor edits before, but I only registered today as a user. I've also contributed with minor edits in the Occitan Wikipedia. I noticed that there is relatively little info on flamenco in the English wikipedia so I'm going to start by adding some bios of flamenco artists. Some of them are OK in the Spanish version and in that case I'll translate from there. I'm also interested in other types of music: opera, classical, some types of world music...

I'll probably have to ask for help in linking the articles to the general structure. At the moment I have included a couple of stubs on flamenco singers Mayte Martín and Manolo Caracol. (By the way, how do you place one of those banners warning that an article is a stub?) :-) GemmaMS 20:13, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

If you are the author of an article that you want to delete, place {{db-author}} on the top of the article, and an admin will come along to delete it. In this case, though, the article has already been deleted, and PLEASE DO NOT RECREATE IT! According to its deletion log, it has already been deleted three times for the same thing, and it's more likely that the page will be delete-protected than accepted as an article. Please do not create articles that do not conform to Wikipedia's policies as it's really not a productive way to contribute. Let me know if you need additional help! —Keakealani 19:00, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
The last AC meeting (full log)
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

It's okay, everyone makes mistakes. The issue is that people wouldn't be able to see your past history and might have a different judgment (like if they've seen that you've been warned recently before they might make a slightly higher-level warning), or request a block. I'm sure you didn't mean any harm, but now you know ^^ —Keakealani 03:00, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] dynamIt

Not spam at all, just telling a real life story. Think Google or Microsoft-- real life success stories are just that, stories.

Tell me what to do to make this not "spam" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrmonkey11 (talkcontribs) 01:32, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Take a look at Wikipedia's Manual of Style. Right now, the article is very blantantly advertising a company and only presents one (favourable) point of view without criticism. If you take a look at Google, you will notice that the article presents a neutral point of view sourcing cricisms as well as providing information. This article, on the other hand, does not cite sources other than its own advertising website and does not present encyclopedic information on the subject. It really just doesn't look like an encyclopedic article from any side, honestly. I don't want to spend the time to make too much cricism, but as it were the article is really not at all what is considered a good contribution on Wikipedia. —Keakealani 01:42, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Your warnings to User:Shithousecrew

Thanks for the update; I am using VandalProof 131; and for some reason those appeared on the wrong page... Am looking into the problem (looking for known glitches in the program) and will move the comments to the discussion page. I love the programme, but have had a couple of problems w/ the new version! Ah, so that's what happened....well, good luck with the program —Keakealani 02:37, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unnamed question from User:Jfriess

Hi:

I created a page for the [Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools]. It's acronym is "SPACS". To allow people to get to the page [Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools], I created a "pointer" page called "SPACS", which I guess has too little content, as you pointed out and deleted. How can I create a link to [Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools] from a search of "SPACS"? In other words, how can I create an acronym definition for "SPACS"?

jfriess Jack Friess Stevens Point, Wisconsin USA

I think what you're trying to do is create a redirect page, which that link will help you do. Sorry I mistook it, but it did look like a page with only links out which is unacceptable for an article. You may also want to note that Wikipedia article titles are case-sensitive, so "spacs" is not the same as "SPACS". Just as a pointer. —Keakealani 04:01, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I think that is what I was trying to do--seems to be working now. Thanks. BTW, I couldn't find in WIKIPEDIA the word "WIKI", which I figured to be an acronym. I did find elsewhere on the web "WIKI = "What I Know Is". If this is correct, perhaps it can be added to the WIKIPEDIA definitions?? Jfriess 04:15, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia isn't an acronym, actually - Wiki is short for the Hawaiian "wikiwiki", meaning "quick". More information at Wikipedia... —Keakealani 05:26, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
The reference for the acronym definition of "WIKI: What I Know Is" is The Free Dictionary. I'll do some more research and then move over to the discussion relating to changes on the "wiki" page if I find anything else helpful related to the derivation of "wiki". Thanks for your help. This is fun!! Oh ya, and very useful. Jfriess 11:22, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

(edit conflict) I'm sorry, as well, as I probably over-reacted a bit when I was writing that comment. So I shall definitely try to stay calm in such a situation in the future. Thank you for your contributions...it looks quite nice, now.
Yes, you're certainly forgiven; it's my fault for over-reacting so much...I have a sensitive spot about copyvios, I guess XD Again, thank you so much for your contributions. —Keakealani 20:38, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ALFRED CHENEY JOHNSTON deleted

Hello Keakealani-

I just submitted content for ALFRED CHENEY JOHNSTON from my own website for Wikipedia users. I wrote the original content and would like to include it on WIKIPEDIA as well as on my website www.alfredcheneyjohnston.com. Can you restore the page for me? Thanks, Robert (Bob) Hudovernik

I'm not an admin and therefore don't have the power to restore articles. Regardless, there was no assertion on the site that the contents of the website are public domain or conform to the GFDL, and until they do they are not legally allowed on Wikipedia. Additionally, you will need to substantially rewrite the article to conform with the style of an encyclopedia which it was not. Please consider writing an article with external sources - an unsourced article is likely to be deleted, especially if there is no assertion of notability. Please take a look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines as well as Wikipedia:Your first article for information on what is and is not acceptable. Thanks! —Keakealani 09:32, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
