Keaʻau is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaiʻi County, Hawaiʻi, United States. The population was 2,010 at the 2000 census.

Keaʻau is located at 19°37′16″N, 155°2′30″W (19.621072, -155.041706)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.4 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 2,010 people, 608 households, and 480 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 813.8 people per square mile (314.2/km²). There were 659 housing units at an average density of 266.8/sq mi (103.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 11.29% White, 0.10% African American, 0.25% Native American, 57.71% Asian, 4.38% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 25.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.40% of the population.

There were 608 households out of which 37.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% were married couples living together, 13.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.9% were non-families. 16.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.29 and the average family size was 3.68.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $39,722, and the median income for a family was $43,347. Males had a median income of $27,344 versus $23,287 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,657. About 9.6% of families and 12.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.9% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.
