KDOG, better known as "The Dog", is a radio station serving south central Minnesota. The station airs an adult hits format. They are licensed to North Mankato, Minnesota and serve the Mankato area and the Minnesota River Valley. Since April 2006, KDOG's format has been simulcasting on sister station KNSG in Springfield, Minnesota,[1] which covers cities such as Redwood Falls and Marshall. The two stations mostly air separate programming.
The station went on the air in 1984 with a Hot Adult Contemporary format as "96.7 K-DOG." Over the years, the station has tweaked its on-air presentation slightly, going so far as to rebrand itself as "96.7 The Spot" in May 1999[2], with a modern AC orientation and the syndicated Bob and Sheri morning show. The station dropped the "Spot" moniker and transitioned to a broader hot adult contemporary format in August 2002.[3] They have been programming their current adult hits format since 2006.
KDOG is owned by Linder Radio, a.k.a. Minnesota Valley Broadcasting Co. with sister stations KNSG (a full-time simulcast of KDOG), KTOE, KXAC and newly acquired KATO-FM, KXLP and KYSM. Linder Radio also owns KOWZ-FM, KOWZ and KRUE, which serve the Waseca/Owatonna area and whose signals can be picked up in parts of the Mankato market.
