User talk:Kd4dcy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome!

User:Gnome (Bot)-talk decided to screw around with my userpages at 00:44, 18 May 2007 (UTC) and several times thereafter. It removed the following LINKS to images, claiming they couldn't be on that page under fair use guidelines. Wikipedia, however, actually has recommended using user subpages as scratchpads for building and editing articles prior to posting them for the world to see. Consistent, eh? Apparently the whole encyclopedia, user pages included, is now subject to the whim of anyone who runs a bot. Kind of speaks to the reason for this encyclopedia's lack of credibility, doesn't it? :)

  • Taking just one of the above as an example, Gnome Bot removed Image:Winalogo.jpg from User:Kd4dcy/winatest in compliance with our policy. The way the image should have been connected to the page while you were working on developing it is to link to it, rather than display it. You've linked to images above, rather than displayed them. That's the way to handle it. If you need an image to be displayed temporarily for page layout purposes, then you can use Image:Example.jpg. Sandboxes are fine. The problem is that there are a huge number of them, and it is very difficult to individually assess each one to determine if it is an old sandbox, one that is being worked on, or one that might be worked on in the future. Sometimes, you can't tell. The bot is handling this appropriately. --Durin 14:25, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:13September6.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:13September6.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:44, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:JillCohnOutside.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:JillCohnOutside.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 22:46, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image removal

Your bot apparently missed the dispute tag that was put on this image (JillCohnOutside.jpg) the day before it decided to delete it. That strikes me as a malfunction, since disputes are for the purpose of allowing discussion before something is deleted. In this case, a bot flagged the image for deletion due to non-free criteria, but the image was both fair-use eligible and USED BY PERMISSION of the copyright owner. Scott Johnson 21:33, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

ImageRemovalBot does not delete images. If you want to find out what happened to the image, talk to User:Maxim, who was the one who deleted it. --Carnildo 21:40, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:SevenYearSurrender.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:SevenYearSurrender.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 08:24, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
