Talk:KCBS (AM)

Is KCBS really "the West Coast flagship radio station of CBS," or is KNX? --Hillrhpc 04:13, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
- While KNX is the CBS station in the larger LA market, KCBS does have the corporate name in its call letters, usually a good sign of what they consider the flagship. Of course, KCBS has been owned by CBS longer, so that's probably why SF, not LA, has the KCBS name.--oknazevad 01:46, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Night reception of KCBS
Contrary to the article, KCBS (AM) can be heard clearly at night here in the L.A. area! This is because KBRT shuts down, except for a small feed into Catalina Island. - Desmond Hobson 23:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, that's the bad part:having a radio station that shares the same frequency as KCBS(AM), but at least while the Catalina Island fire was going on, KBRT was off the air for two days, and I was able to hear the morning traffic repoerts until almost 9:00 am...Baldwin91006 02:35, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] KCBS-AM in High Definition?
I just listened to KCBS (AM) earlier (January 23) tonight here in San Francsico, and it had a new slogan on the hour that said "What's happening and Why? KCBS and KCBS-HD San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose" prior to the 8:00pm (Pacific Time) CBS News broadcast. Is KCBS (AM) now moving on to becoming KCBS-HD, providing news reports in high definition, serving throughout the Bay Area? - wishfulanthony 05:33, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- They've actually been broadcasting in HD for some time, it's just that they've officially debuted it. The HD AM radio (IBOC hash) just gets the audio level to an FM quality, and does not provide the digital subchannels or CD quality of FM HD. http://www.mail-archive.com/irca@hard-core-dx.com/msg16727.html Calwatch (talk) 05:57, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
