KBSB, known as "FM90", is the college radio station for Bemidji State University. FM 90 broadcasts at 122 Watts, reaching the campus, the city of Bemidji, Minnesota, and as far away as 35 miles out of town. FM 90 runs a Top 40 hits radio format. FM 90 does shy away from Top 40 every once in a while with specialty shows. These shows range in format from Hip-Hop, Bluegrass, and Heavy Metal. Along with broadcasting over the airwaves FM 90 can be heard on the World Wide Web.

FM90 is true student radio station only operated by its students. Roger Paskvan, owner of RP Broadcasting in town, is a station advisor.

[edit] History

KBSB initially began broadcasting from the basement of Hickory (now Decker) Hall on campus and opened up a "block programming" schedule including granting access to members of the community to air their own shows. Over the years, the community DJs have dwindled-down to only one remaining show; Backporch Bluegrass on Thursday afternoons. The studio moved to its current location in Deputy Hall sometime in the 70's. With diverse programming, the station has aired shows such as retro requests, love-themed call-in "The Love Life," international music, a Native American show among others. Its eclectic student staff have moved on into other professions aside from media. Many have moved on to other radio stations in Bemidji, other towns including the Twin Cities, some made the leap into television and one FM90 grad founding the media forum website RedAndNater.com.
