Kazi Golam Mahboob

Kazi Golam Mahboob (Bangla: কাজী গোলাম মাহবুব) is an activist of the Language Movement that took place in the erstwhile East Pakistan (currently Bangladesh). He was also an active politician and worked in both of the major political parties of Bangladesh.

Kazi Golam Mahboob was born in Kashba village of Gouronodi Thana in Barisal district. He matriculated from Barisal Torki High School in 1942 and then went to Calcutta Islamia College. There he was elected as the VC of the college’s student assembly.

In 1948, he got admitted at the law department of Dhaka University as an LLM student. He took part at the 1948 language movement by joining the Students Action Committee and was arrested for this. In 1949, he was again arrested for assisting a strike at the Dhaka University. Kazi Mahbub is founding member of the Awami League. On January 31, 1952, when Shorbodolio Kendrio Rashtrabhasha Kormoparishad was founded, Mahboob was selected as it’s convener. Kazi Mahboob attended the meeting of the at Amtala on February 21, 1952 and joined in the rally to violate section 144. Later on, he was arrested and spent one year in prison. At the later part of his political life, he became the vice chairman of BNP.[1]
