[edit] History
[edit] Before 2005-2006 Season
Kayseri Erciyesspor was founded as Kayseri Emniyetspor (by changing name of Kayserigücü in 1975.) Emniyetspor's colours were red and dark blue. They have gone through several name and colour changes: Kayseri Erciyesspor and black and white in the 1989-90 season; Büyükşehir Belediye Erciyesspor and blue-white in 1992; Melikgazi Belediyespor and yellow and red in 1994; Hacılar Erciyesspor and yellow and dark blue in 1999; Erciyesspor and yellow, red, and white in 2001; and Kayserispor and yellow and red in 2004. The existing Kayserispor changed its name to Erciyesspor.
Kayseri Emniyetspor were promoted to the Third League in the 1987-88 season and to the Second League in the 1999-2000 season. Hacılar Erciyesspor finished first in the Third Group of the Second League and managed to reach the Promotion Play-Off in 2000-2001 season. Finishing sixth, they didn't get the promotion they vied for. However, they did advance to Second League Category A.
They were relegated to Second League Category B, since they finished third-to-last in the 2001-2002 season. However, they finished first in Group C in 2002-2003, and were promoted to Category A. Finishing third the next season, Erciyesspor reached the Turkish Super League for the first time.
In 2004-2005, the first seven matches for Kayserispor amounted to only two points. Hüsnü Özkara, the coach, was replaced by Hikmet Karaman, and the team began to recover. In the end, they finished 14th with 34 points, barely staying in the Super League. Kayserispor appointed Ertuğrul Sağlam as coach after the season.
[edit] 2005-2006
Kayserispor finished 5th in the newly-christened Turkcell Super League, and forward Gökhan Ünal led the league in goals. The team earned a place in the 2006 Intertoto Cup, their first European competition, and would go on to win it, becoming the first Turkish club honoured with winning this relatively new UEFA competition. Through this historic victory, they qualified for the 2006-2007 UEFA Cup, the club's second European competition. Their victory was only the fifth time a Turkish club won in a UEFA competition. Those who came before were Galatasaray twice (UEFA Cup 99/00 over Arsenal FC and UEFA Super Cup 00/01 over Real Madrid), Fenerbahçe (Balkans Cup 66/67 over AEK Athens FC), and Samsunspor (Balkans Cup 93/94 over PAS Giannina).

In their first UEFA Cup match on August 10, 2006; they beat Albanian side KF Tirana 2-0 in the first leg in Albania. Kayserispor won 3-1 at home and advanced to the second round.
Kayserispor did not reach a place in the group stages, as they lost to AZ Alkmaar 4-3 on aggregate.
Meanwhile, in the Turkcell Super League, they once again finished fifth after being passed by Trabzonspor due to a series of bad results.
[edit] 2007-2008
The new manager for the upcoming season was Tolunay Kafkas, following the departure of Ertuğrul Sağlam to Besiktas JK in the summer. After managing to fight off interest from other clubs of star players Gokhan Unal and Mehmet Topuz, they comfortably finished in fifth place in the 2007/08 Turkcell Super Lig. As well as achieving their second conisisten fifth-place finish in as many seasons, the team also won the Turkish Cup for the first time. Thus, enabling them to compete again in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup. This will be their third UEFA european competition in four years of being in the Turkcell Super Lig - a remarkable achievement for the club. They quickly becoming one of the more consistent and powerful Turkish league teams, and with the completion of the new 32,864-seat Kayseri Kadir Has Stadyumu, they will have the facilities to match their new-found success.
