Kavli is a Norwegian brand of soft cheese, kaviar, mayonnaise and crackers. The company is owned by the Kavli Foundation and based in Bergen. The company sells produce in 30 countries, with plants in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, England and Scotland.
The company dates back to 1893 when Olav Kavli started a dairy and export of cheese to the United States. In 1924 Olav Kavli invented the first way to produces lasting soft cheese and launched the Primula (food) brand, quickly entering the international market. Later the corporation entered new related products. In 1962 the ownership of the company was taken over by a foundation to insure that the company remained as an important social institution.
