Kaunas Zoo is the only Zoo-park in Lithuania. It is located in an oak grove in the south-western part of Kaunas, Dainava where over 2,800 individuals of over 270 species of animals are kept[1]. The territory of the zoo is 15,9 ha.

Kaunas Zoo was founded in 1935 by zoologist Tadas Ivanauskas, and opened on July 1, 1938 with 40 species, and after year has passed there were already 150 individuals. By 1960, Kaunas Zoo held 400 individuals of over 100 species.

Due to lack of funds, the Zoo still awaits its renovation.
