The Kauai Nukupu’u was a species of Hemignathus that was found through out parts of Kauai. It was common in the 1800s where it was seen as an insect eater, picking them out from the bark. The males where a yellowish birds with brown wings. While the female were greyish brown with a yellow throat streak. It was affected the loss of its lowland forests to the slash and burn farming methods. By 1889, this bird was very rare, however, it was till found in small flocks in the higher forests. It was believed to exist till the 1890s. It was then rediscovered and was seen till Hurricane Inki arrived, by 1996 the last one was seen.
