[edit] Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Newcomers help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I noticed you are known only as an IP address; that means you are not signed up. To sign up, you only need to click Create account and choose a username and password. You don't need to provide any personal information. If you sign up, you'll have a username that others can use to recognize you and leave you messages on the wiki. You'll be able to sign your name just by typing four tildes (~~~~) when you leave someone else a message. Plus, you (and others) will easily be able to see a list of all your contributions to Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, ask at the Village pump, or feel free to ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

[edit] Paul Varghese

Thanks for asking me about my notability tag. First of all, let me underline that this tag is juts expressing a concern, and neither a definite judgment. For the moment I'd leave the tag since

  • the links are mostly of the news type which you would expect to find for any performer
  • I currently see him closer to another comedian that I actually nominated for deletion than to Russell Peters
  • Leaving the tag may help to involve other editors —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tikiwont (talkcontribs) 13:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] AfD nomination of Albanian-Udi

An editor has nominated Albanian-Udi, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Albanian-Udi and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Jayden54Bot 10:54, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

I should thank you for your interests.--Dacy69 19:17, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks so much for the barnstar!

I find it amazing that both sides on the India vs. Pakistan battle are accusing me. One side is calling me a "weak, balless Indian" and the other is calling me "Pakistan-history stealer!" It gives me great pleasure to see that beyond the POV-pushers there are people to support and respect the neutrality of Wikipedia, where every view is fairly represented. Here are two quotes, which I greatly admire.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus Epistle to Galatians

I look upon all creatures equally; none are less dear to me and none more dear. -- Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita

May you have a prosperous time on Wikipedia and in your real life! GizzaChat © 00:58, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi, need some help on Anti-Brahmanism page?

I've tried before to get it more neutral, tried different things, like you, at one point added the [citation needed] markers, but to no avail. These people will revert anything that asks for support for their POV. I have basically given up on it, but if you're still interested you can put some such [citation needed] markers back in, and I will assist to keep them there. Problem is these people are Wiki lawyers too, so gotta be careful. Gschadow 03:23, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Response to your advice

Hi, thank you so much for your good advice. You mentioned to draw in administrators, but with my experience last time I felt like an idiot. These admins don't seem to see the game that is being played. Anyway, I decided to have a life instead of wasting it on Wikipedia fights. Just wanted to reach out to like minded people to see if we can help each other out. Thanks again. Gschadow 00:14, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

When you add categories to articles, please pipe them properly (copy the categories already there). --Mel Etitis (Talk) 17:24, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry — none of us knows everything, even after years here. The best thing to do is to copy what you see others doing, as well as to read documents like WIkipedia:Categories. "Piping" an ordinary internal link is to use the "|" symbol to change what the reader sees:
  • [[User:Mel Etitis|elephant]] is seen as elephant.
Piping a category does something different: it changes the alphabetical order in which the article appears at the category page. For example, I think that you've added Category:People from Kerala to Rahul Easwar; his name will appear at the category page under "R", because that's the first letter of the article. It should, of course, be under "E" — so you pipe the category: Easwar, Rahul.
By the way, also:

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Happy editing! --Mel Etitis (Talk) 20:33, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Checkuser procedure

Please take the time to read the instructions at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser. I am delisting the case you filled, the information you provided are not enough to perform a Checkuser. -- lucasbfr talk 18:00, 4 April 2007 (UTC), Checkuser clerk.

Read the page I linked, the step by step procedure is there. Also see the other cases under the same name to see how a request is made. Keep in mind that you need solid arguments to fill a case or it will most likely be rejected. -- lucasbfr talk 16:07, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] April 2007

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Criticism of Hinduism, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Buddhipriya 03:09, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Please stop. If you continue to blank out (or delete portions of) page content, templates or other materials from Wikipedia, as you did to Criticism of Hinduism, you will be blocked from editing. Your removal of a ciation to a published book constitutes vandalism. See: [1] Buddhipriya 03:53, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Indian collaboration of the week news

As mentioned in Wikiproject India newsletter of March 2007, the weekly collaboration of the Indian wikiproject has fallen from its once high feats. This message is to request the users to visit the collaboration page and help rejuvenate it.

The present collaboration of the week is Religion in India. Please go through the talk page of the article to see the proposed changes in the article. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:16, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HKelkar/BakaSuperman Arbitration

I remember your and Bakasuprman edit wars on Indian caste system. If you'd like, you can contribute some evidences against Bakasuprman here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Hkelkar_2/Evidence The changes I made (with explanation) on that article were reverted without giving any explanation by Bakasuprman. I even posted a message on his talk page, but he never replied. I suspect some foul play here. Thanks.John.Knott 15:50, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] John.Knott page revert war

On John.Knott user page Baksuprman has been revert warring with you. Please note that the sock was first makred by an IP which is an open proxy now dead. Though there is no way to check if it is a proxy now there are still existing proxies with neighbouring IPs. For example, 220.249.114.134, which is already blocked. Per Wikipedia policies proxy editing is banned. A sock marking by a proxy is patent trolling and personal attack. Baksuprman's continuous reversion means he is behind this proxy attack. Continual reverting back to a version of a troll on proxy is blockable offence. Please bring this to ANI.

[edit] Results for AfD on Dravidian civilizations article

Hi,

Here is the outcome of the final decision for AfD on the Dravidian civilizations article:

The result was no consensus to delete; defaulting to keep. This is most certainly not a 'hoax'; there are plenty of sources to show that this is a valid concept. However, the views of the Community were split down the middle with strong opinions on both sides. What is clear is that there are significant parts of the article that are disputed and the way forward is for those concerned editors to initiate a thorough-going rewrite. TerriersFan 20:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Once again, thank you for your input in the matter. Regards. Wiki Raja 21:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bobby Moon

A tag has been placed on Bobby Moon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --D-Day 20:18, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Frank William Holland

If you don't think this guy exists, why not nominate the article for deletion as a hoax? Personally, I don't know one way or the other, but I'll grant you that Google appears to turn up precious little, though of course a number of people with this (presumably common enough) name pop up - none of them apparently related to this article. Perhaps you could also have a chat with the original creator? Lilac Soul (talk contribs count) 20:50, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sneha Anne Philip

Thank you for the clarification on the minnu ... the New York article wasn't clear on her family's religious faith, and I know it was a little presumptuous of me to assume they were Hindu, but absent any statement that they were Muslim that was the stronger choice. Glad someone more knowledgeable than me clarified it's not connected to the bride's religion ... I searched our articles on Indian wedding traditions but couldn't find anything. Daniel Case (talk) 20:04, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, now that I've finished the article (funny, we both seem to have geographical connections to the subject — you via Kerala and me via the Hudson Valley ... I've added it to both projects) you can see where the minnu becomes important. The diamond would have survived the fires in the ruins of the WTC, and her family hopes that the city can match a photo to the unclaimed jewelry it still has.

Do you have a source for her family being Christian? It would probably clarify things a bit if we could put that in the article. Daniel Case (talk) 07:39, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the WikiProject Tamil civilization! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Dravidian related topics.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Interested in working on a more complete article? The peer review department of the project would welcome your help!
  • Interested in a particular area of Tamil history, geography, culture etc. ? There is already one task force, and you could initiate the creation of more focusing on specific topics or periods.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around!

Hello Kathanar!

You are cordially invited to participate in WikiProject Christianity

The goal of WikiProject Christianity is to improve the quality and quantity of information about Christianity available on Wikipedia. WP:X as a group does not prefer any particular tradition or denominination of Christianity, but prefers that all Christian traditions are fairly and accurately represented.

You are receiving this invitation because you are a member of one of the related Christianity Projects and I thought that you might be interested in this project also - Tinucherian (talk) 06:27, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

I see that you have added yourself with the deparments of Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity , but not as a member. Please do the same. - Tinucherian (talk) 03:16, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ethnic categories

Please do not add ethnic categories which are not supported to articles as you did at Sameer Bhattacharya. Thanks. --John (talk) 19:30, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I am sorry you found my message above to be rude, it certainly wasn't intended that way. As an administrator here I do reserve the right to send users messages when they make edits that are in violation of our policies, however irritating you may find that. WP:V, WP:BLP and WP:NOR are three that spring to mind in relation to this issue. I hope that reading these will clarify to you why I sent the message I did. Best wishes, --John (talk) 19:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your further message. Once again I am sorry if receiving such a message was upsetting to you. I am curious though; you mentioned Wikipedia:Civility in your message; which part of it do you believe I breached? --John (talk) 20:20, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
