Katzenjammers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bold textThe Princeton University Katzenjammers are the oldest co-ed collegiate a cappella group in the United States.[citation needed] Founded by Peter Urquhart (T'74) and Mimi Danley (S'74) in 1973, the group consists of fourteen to eighteen singers (all undergraduates at Princeton University) and holds auditions at the beginning of each semester. Its repertoire usually includes all styles of music, including jazz, pop, classical, and folk music. In the fall of 2006, the Katzenjammers premiered Princeton professor and composer Paul Lansky's composition Folk Troupes.

The Katzenjammers tour biannually both domestically and internationally, to destinations including Los Angeles, London, Georgia, Guatemala, Ireland, and many others. Recently the group participated in the Sligo International Choral Festival in Ireland, where they garnered first prize in their category.[citation needed] Rick Hoffenberg's (TB'94) arrangement of 'Round Midnight was featured on "Best of College A Cappella" in 1996.[citation needed]
